Emergency Codes O Code 36 O Code Blue O Code Red O Code Yellow O Code Black O Visitor/ Intruder Plan O Fire Drills O Tornado Drills

Code 36 O Students Fighting, Students running away from school staff, etc… O Exact location of event should be given. O All security and administration should report to the incident, EXCEPT IF YOU ARE ON CAFETERIA DUTY. O An “All Clear” indication should be given before normal radio communication is resumed.

Code Blue Medical Emergency O Immediately notify the front office with your name & the location of the student/staff that is sick or injured. O Describe the nature of the illness/injury. O State the student’s name and grade (if known) or the staff member’s name. O Do not move or leave the person until assistance arrives. O The administrator in charge will determine the course of action to be taken.

Fire Event/Drill O Adhere to the posted evacuation route listed in your classroom. If the designated route is not possible, assess the situation and exercise your best judgment. O Ensure students evacuate in a quick and orderly manner. O Students must be at least 50 feet from building and should be assembled in an orderly manner. O Take your class roster to ensure all students are present & accounted for.

Fire Event/Drill O Wait for the “All Clear” bell to ring before entering the building. O Please do your best to convey to your students the importance of exiting the building quickly and in an orderly manner.

Tornado Event/Drill O A warning announcement will commence on the PA system stating: “Tornado Drill-all students and staff are to report to their assigned areas and assume the protective position”. O Teachers in all buildings should have students move away from windows and have students face the interior wall in a protective posture position.

Tornado Event/Drill O Teachers in portables are to bring students in to the building at the nearest entry point. O Go down the hall and have your students assume a protective posture position along the wall. Students should remain silent. O PE teachers are to bring students in to the gym and have students assume a protective posture position.

CODE RED O During a Code Red, an announcement will be made stating: “Teachers and Students, we are implementing a Code Red”. O Conduct a visual sweep of the hallway once the call has been made and bring in any students or staff to your room. O All students are to remain in the room and the doors should immediately be locked. O The students must be ABSOLUTELY SILENT and all INSTRUCTION CEASES.

CODE RED O ALL STUDENTS MUST BE MOVED FROM WINDOWS & THE SIGHT LINE OF THE DOOR WINDOW and be POSITIONED IN A HUDDLED MASS ON THE GROUND WITH THE LIGHTS OFF. IT IS CRITICAL TO GIVE THE APPEARANCE OF AN EMPTY ROOM. O THERE SHOULD BE NO INSTRUCTION OR ACTIVITIES TAKING PLACE-TOTAL SILENCE. O Do not leave your room unless you are instructed to do so by law enforcement or school staff. O An announcement will be made when the Code Red is over.

CODE YELLOW O During a Code Yellow, an announcement will be made stating: “Teachers and Students, we are implementing a Code Yellow”. O Conduct a visual sweep of the hallway once the call has been made and bring in any student that is in the hallway. O All students are to remain in the room and the doors should immediately be locked.

CODE YELLOW O INSTRUCTION AND ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES CAN TAKE PLACE. O There is NO MOVEMENT in the halls-UNLESS INSTRUCTED TO DO SO BY ADMINISTRATION. O All exterior doors and gates will be locked. O An announcement will be made when the Code Yellow has ended.

CODE BLACK O In the event of a bomb threat, an announcement will be made stating: “We will be implementing a Code Black”. O The fire alarm may or may not ring. O Staff that supervises fire drills will visually scan their zones & teachers should visually scan their classroom before exiting-LOOK FOR ITEMS THAT ARE OUT OF PLACE OR OUT OF THE ORDINARY. O Students must evacuate the room with their book bags, purses, and backpacks.

CODE BLACK O Any strange object should be reported to Administration or Security immediately. O Never move or touch a suspicious item. O Leave computers on in the classroom or lab. O Evacuate your students to your designated “on campus” student assembly zone. O Be sure to have your class roster and teacher name placard.

CODE BLACK O In the event the civil authorities determine that a evacuation off campus is required, follow your prescribed route to the access road (13 th street) that leads to Fox Trail Elementary (across Nob Hill Road). O Once off campus and assembled, take attendance, account for all students, and supervise your students. Report any missing students to administration or security.

CODE BLACK O If the civil authorities determine that the school unsafe for return, then “parent reunification” measures will be enacted. O If for some reason your evacuation route to Fox Trail is not accessible, use your best judgment to get your students off campus to the “off campus” assembly area. O Be certain to read the “Code Black” memorandum.

CODE ORANGE O In the event a chemical/gas leak or spill, an announcement will be made stating “We are implementing a Code Orange”. O Staff and students are to directly evacuate to the staging area on the access road leading to Fox Trail. O Once assembled at Fox Trail, account for and supervise your students. O Civil authorities will make a determination when it is safe to return to school.
