Evacuation Plan Ashley Ridge High School

3 ARHS Safety Plan The Evacuation Plan is utilized for all drills and events that require all persons to exit the school building. Fire Drills / Fire Evacuation / Bomb Threat All evacuations, both drill or real, should be performed in a serious manner Fire Drills are required at least once per month Drills will occur unannounced throughout the school year Fire Escape Routes Escape routes are posted in each classroom next to the doorway

In the event of an evacuation emergency students should: Everyone in the building will end in the football stadium. Evacuate the building using the escape route diagram Stay with your class. If separated from your class, walk to the stadium and find another staff member and make sure they are aware. Wait for further direction from staff member Typically the fire alarm will sound to signal the need to evacuate the building

7 ARHS Safety Plan Lockdown There are many ways that teachers can be notified of a lockdown. (ex. phone, all call, , face to face) This will require all staff members to take charge of students and move them to a secure location, account for them and keep them safe until the security issue has been resolved.

8 ARHS Safety Plan WHAT STUDENTS NEED TO DO…
In the event of a lockdown emergency students should: Follow all teacher directions Quickly and quietly move to the wall labeled “Safe Wall” in the classroom You should not be able to be seen from the hallway through the window in the door. Report to the nearest room that may lock if in the hallway, restroom, café, gym. Teacher will secure the door, turn off lights and take role to account for all students Wait for further direction from administrator, SRO or police officer. Stay off of your cell phones!!!! It disrupts the line of communication for police/fire/rescue.

Tornado Plan Ashley Ridge High School

11 ARHS Safety Plan The Tornado Emergency Plan is utilized in the event that a tornado is in close proximity to the school. Teachers will: Move students to the Hallway outside your room or area and occupy the wall nearest your classroom. Do not use the elevator Stay away from the windows Typically an announcement will be made in the event of a tornado.

12 ARHS Safety Plan WHAT STUDENTS NEED TO DO…
In the event of a tornado emergency students should: Move quickly and orderly with their teacher to their designated hallway FACE AWAY from windows and doors at the end of the Hallway. ASSUME "CROUCH" POSITION on knees, head down, hands clasped on back of neck or head covered with book or jacket. You may use a book or jacket to cover your head and shield your eyes.

In the event of a earthquake emergency students should: Crouch under their desk or table, and grab what they are under for support. Teacher led evacuation will typically follow any major earthquake situation.
