Second Grade News Issue # 1 A note from Mrs. Martinez... Monday, July 30, Your child will be given an agenda. It will be used as a form of parent/teacher communication in which you will be aware of daily activities, homework, as well as if your child followed our classroom rules, the Six Pillars of Character. In the agenda, you will find a bookmark which will direct you to the week’s calendar. On the top side, your child will write the homework for everyday and on the bottom side a daily activity will be written and discussed at home. In that same column a stamp will be placed if your child had an excellent (E), or satisfactory (S) day. If your child received an (I) improvement needed or (U) unsatisfactory, then a brief note will be written. Please sign and return the following day. Please review and sign your child’s agenda on a daily basis. A parent signature shows that you are informed of the daily activities, homework, and behavior. Welcome to Room 95! I am pleased to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to our second grade class. As a teacher, I am dedicated to help each child reach their highest potential. With your participation and support, we can look forward to a creative, productive, and a successful year together. Once again, welcome to our classroom! Communication Attendance Homework Each month a class newsletter will be sent home. This newsletter will be discussed in class and all students will be expected to read the newsletter to his /her parents. In this newsletter, parents will be notified about classroom/school events, concepts that will be mastered, birthdays, and other news regarding our classroom. Communication is the key to a successful school year. Please know that I am available to discuss your child’s progress, answer questions, address concerns, or listen to suggestions. Please contact me by sending a written note with your child, scheduling a conference, or ing me at As a courtesy to all students in the classroom, I ask that parents call only during my conference period which is Monday-Thursday from 1:00-2:00. Phone calls during instructional time are not permitted and will be forwarded directly to voice mail. If you leave a voice mail, I will return your call as soon as possible. School supplies were kept to a minimum, however, throughout the school year your child will need to replenish supplies as needed. Please have all school supplies by Friday, August 3. If you would like to donate wipes, sanitizer, gallon sized Ziplock bags, wide-ruled notebook paper it will be greatly be appreciated!! In the morning second grade students will be lining up on the basketball court. Children should be in line by 7:40 a.m. Parents will not be allowed to come into the building. At 7:45 the tardy bell will ring and instruction begins. School will be dismissed at 3:15. We will walk to the drop off area located by the basketball courts. If your child is to walk home or be picked up by a sibling, please send a note stating details. Thank you! Please call the office or send a note when your child is absent. Unexcused absences will result in your child not being able to make up work. Excessive absences or tardies could have serious consequences. Please note the new tardy policy that will be sent out. This year the district is promoting a high attendance rate. We will have both class and school wide monthly incentives for perfect attendance. Let’s make it count! Homework will be assigned Mon.-Thurs. All assignments are written on white board. It is your child’s responsibility to copy assignment and return it daily. Homework is an extension of what has been taught in the classroom and should take no longer than 30 minutes. Monthly Newsletters Agendas Morning/Afternoon Procedures School Supplies
