My music magazine.

Genre & Audience The genre that my magazine will be is hip/hop chart music as it is quite popular and will give me a variety of different ideas for my front cover which I can then use to make it look appealing. As it is popular it will also attract a quite a big audience because hip/hop music tends to have a large following from audience of a young age. I feel like this type of music is often stereotyped involving ethnicity and character so I would like to eliminate this stereotype and make it appealing to a wider audience, as although it is popular, that tends to only be from younger adults and teens.

Ideas For Front Cover Looking at different music magazines, I have chosen two different styles of front cover that I am interested in recreating. This is Rolling Stone magazine and Q magazine, I like these two because they don’t stick to one specific genre and always feature a variety of different people to suit all different types of audience and can appeal to many. I also like the layout of these two covers as they clearly show the main picture that bleeds across the whole page, and has a clear column inch which informs the reader about what is in the issue.

Magazine Front Covers I have looked at different magazine covers for some inspiration and I’ve found that Rolling Stone magazine has a layout that interests me, I would like to incorporate ideas from this into my own layout on my front cover as I feel the column inch shows just enough information to draw the reader in and the callout is always what you get immediately drawn to, other than the picture. I also like the colour scheme of this magazine as it doesn’t use a lot of colours but is still effective, and that is something I’d like to have on my front cover.

Unique Selling Point It will be a low cost magazine as I think a lot of magazines are quite over priced and customers naturally want to spend less money on a magazine. It will also have a CD full of the artists featured in that weeks issue which I think will also encourage readers to buy this magazine. It will then feature competitions which will include prizes such as tickets to live shows and opportunities for things like meeting famous artists that feature in the magazine.

Reader Profile Young person who may be a student or work full time and spends a lot of time listening to older hip-hop/rap artists such as, Tupac, Nas, Wu-Tang Clan, The Notorious B.I.G. and other artists from that time. They are looking to find similar and more modern artists all in one magazine, they look to the internet on sites such as iTunes and would like to go and see these artists live however, does not have the money to be able to do that at this time. They would like to be able to read reviews, preview new music from these modern artists they’ve taken an interest to, have the chance to win prizes such as gig tickets and access a cheaper method of finding all of this in one magazine.
