Ms. Fredricksen 8 th grade Honors Algebra Room 717 Timberwood Middle School

Welcome!  This is my sixth year at Timberwood Middle School  I have set goals for us to achieve this year  This should be a safe and productive year for all of us

A bit about me…  You may call me “Ms. Fred”  I’m a “new” mom.  Before I started teaching I served in the US Navy for four years.  In the Navy I worked on F/A-18 Hornets. LOVE  I really LOVE my job, and I know we are going to have a great year!!!!

Calculators (Algebra Only)  You MUST sign a calculator contract if you wish to use a TMS graphing calculator at any point in the year.  You will have the same calculator every day.

Instructional Goals  Determine if given data or graph is discrete or continuous and/or if the data or graph has correlation.  Determine the domain and range of a relation given a graph or a set of ordered pairs and identify functions.  Describe a function’s dependence of one quantity on another using symbols and variables.  Solve literal equations (formulas) for a given variable.  Write and graph the general forms of linear (y=x) parent functions

Instructional Goals (cont.)  Write and graph the equation of a line given variant information.  Determine the slope of a line when given a graph, an equation or two points.  Apply, interpret, and describe the affects of parameter changes on functions.  Solve equations, inequalities and exponential growth and decay; algebraically and graphically. Apply these skills to solve practical problems.

Instructional Goals (cont.)  Write and graph the general forms of quadratic parent functions (y=x 2 )  Factor completely first- and second-degree binomials and trinomials in one or two variables.  Solve quadratic equations in one variable both algebraically and graphically.  Apply the laws of exponents to perform operations on expressions.

Behavioral Goals  Have all your supplies ready when the bell rings  Show respect for yourself and others Raise your hand and wait to be called on Remain in your seat Listen and follow all directions  Complete all daily work and turn it in!  Learn to work in cooperative groups  Work from bell to bell

Behavioral Logs  Consequences  Rewards  3 – Hall Passes/six week (one student at a time)

Late and Incomplete work  Late work will be deducted 10% each day late.  Late work will become a 50% after five working days.  All work that is turned in incomplete will receive a grade no lower than a 50%.

ZAP (Zero’s Aren’t Permitted)  If your work is more than 1 week late you may be “ZAPPED”.  Your parents will be notified if you need to be “ZAPPED”.  You will receive a 50% for “ZAPPED” work.

Tutoring  I am here early every morning at 7:30 am. You may come in to tutoring starting at 8 am.  My afternoon tutoring is on Thursday from 4-5pm.  Don’t forget to sign in!

Retesting/make-up testing policy  You must come to tutorials for test corrections before you are eligible to retake a test.  Make-up tests will be a different test than what is given in class  Testing tutoring will be held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon and Friday morning.  Retakes and make-up tests must be completed before the next unit test!
