Aristotle of Stagira By: Briane Emerson

Aristotle was born in a small Greek town called Stagira. Aristotle created the theory Syllogism, a form deductive reasoning consisting of a major premise, minor premise, and a conclusion.

Socrates taught wealthy young men of Athens including Plato. Eventually Citizens of Athens considered Socates‘s views unorthodox and sentenced him to death for corrupting the morals of the youth and the city. Plato devoted himself to philosophy and opened an academy in 386. Aristotle was Plato’s prized student. Alexander the Great was a student of Aristotle for four years.

Aristotle wrote the first book on psychology called Para Psyche, Greek for “about the mind or soul.” It is better known in Its Latin Form De Anima. The book includes the first mentions of many ideas that are basic to psychology today, such as the laws of association Poetics is the earliest surviving work of dramatic theory and the first to focus on literary theory.

Aristotle’s’ zoology and the classification of species was the first known attempt to classify animals into groups according to their behavior and by the similarities and differences between their physiologies. Aristotle wrote over 15 treatises based on his study of zoology.

In two works, ‘Enquiry into Plants’ and ‘On the Causes of Plants,’ he made the first systemized study of the plant world. He attempted to classify over 500 plants into trees, shrubs, undershrubs and herbs.

In conclusion, Aristotle greatly influenced all aspects of early science.
