Greek Philosophy Philosophy= love of wisdom Importance of reason – The Greeks began to be concerned with “life questions” Sought to answer questions using reason= power to think clearly Logic= step by step method of thinking though a problem or question

Socrates (470 B.C.E. – 399 B.C.E.) – Philosopher – Traveled around Athens drawing Athenians into discussions using questions – Socratic method= method of teaching using questions and answers – Challenged accepted beliefs and was charged with corrupting Athenian youth – Sentenced to death in 399 B.C.E.

Plato (Circa 428 B.C.E. – 348 B.C.E.) – Student of Socrates – Founded a school of philosophy called the Academy – He was interested in the nature of reality – Remains one of the most influential thinkers in history

Aristotle (384 B.C.E. – 322 B.C.E.) – Natural philosopher – Studied at Plato’s Academy – Studied plants, animals, rocks, mathematics, logic, government, and the arts through observation
