Student Attendance CLASS ABSENCES: The principal may deny credit for a class to a student that has missed more than four blocks from a semester long class or eight blocks from a year long class. PRE-ARRANGED ABSENCES: Requests for extended absences must be submitted in writing to the school prior to the absence. Pre-arranged absences do count towards absences for attendance. SCHOOL RELATED ABSENCES: Absences that result from school related activities do not count towards absences for attendance (ex. field trips, sports activities, late buses). EARLY DISMISSALS: Three early dismissals count as an absence from a class. TARDIES TO CLASS: Three class tardy occurrences count as one class absence.

Athletics To be eligible for participation on any AHS athletic team, the VHSL (Virginia High School League) requires that students MUST be currently taking FIVE credit courses and must have earned FIVE credits the previous year. Repeating a course for a passing grade DOES NOT count towards this requirement. First semester 9 th grade students are eligible on the basis of their promotion from the 8 th grade the previous semester. All students must have a sports physical dated after May 1st, 2015 to participate.
