3 Graduation Requirements: Students must earn 24 credits to receive a diploma from BHS. All classes receive ½ credit per semester (or every 2 quarters) You will need a minimum of 6 credits per year 6 credits per year X 4 years = 24 credits

4 Graduation Requirements: High School Requirements – 4.0 credits of English (4 years) – 2.0 credits of Social Studies 1.0 credit of US History (junior year) 0.5 credit of Government (senior year) 0.5 of elective – 2.0 Credits of Science (2 years) Freshman biology Sophomore Chemistry – 3.0 credits of Math (3 years) Freshman: Algebra, Geometry or Alg. 2 Sophomore: Geometry, Alg. 2 or Pre- Calculus Junior: Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus College Requirements: – 4.0 credits of English (4 years) – 3.0 credits of Social Studies (3 years) – 3.0 credits of Science (3 years) – 3.0 credits of Math (3 years) Algebra1, Geometry and Algebra 2

5 Requirements continued: – 3.0 credits of PE (3 years) – 0.5 credits of health (1/2 year) – 0.5 credit of Consumer Education – 1.0 credit from (1 year) Art, Music, World Language or Technical Education – 8.0 credits of Electives – Total of 24 credits if all classes are passed!! – 2.0 credits of Art/Music/Foreign Language (2 years) – Some school require world Language – Check with the specific college on their college requirements (you might need more classes in certain areas)

7 Discuss core classes with parents, teachers, and counselors. Teachers have made recommendations for you, but your parents have the final say. Consider: current placement, grades, motivation, and standardized testing scores. **If you struggle in math or English – Please circle that you need additional help. Course Placement:

8 6 classes & study Hall = 6.0 credits per year Study hall does not count as a credit, but it gives you time to complete work and get additional help when needed. 7 classes = 7.0 credits per year (this means all 7 academic classes and no study hall) Schedule Options:

10 All freshmen will have one semester of PE and one semester of Health automatically scheduled PE waivers are available for the fall semester for Freshmen who are in in marching band only *Waivers are due to Mrs. Cooley and Mr. Lassandro Physical Education

11 Must pass PE in 9 th grade to take Driver’s ED Must pass a total of 8 courses during the previous two semesters to take Driver’s Ed Two parts to getting your license Classroom: Taken at BHS or Privately Behind the Wheel: Taken at BHS or Privately Drivers Education as a 10 th Grader

13 The form gives you room to choose “extra” electives These will serve as alternatives in case your first choices are full or do not fit into your schedule List all your choices in order of preference on your course selection worksheet (green) Choose Alternative electives

14 Spanish 1 Preferred to have C or better in 8 th grade English Spanish 2 Must have passed 8 th grade Spanish German 1 Preferred to have C or better in 8 th grade English Bilingual Education (ELL) Bilingual teacher will make recommendations for next year Many students should be taking more than two years of world languages Ex: at UIUC 3-4 years of high school language meets college graduation requirements World Language

15 Junior & Senior year program Students attend RVC for two years Earn a BHS diploma and an Associates Degree from Rock Valley College Application criteria includes: 3.0 GPA at the end of Freshman year! **Students must complete Algebra 2 by the end of sophomore year Rock Valley College Running Start

16 Review credits to make sure that all required courses have been taken Assists with career planning Ex. Career in teaching – plan for four years of college Plan for advanced elective courses Ex. Career in Business – to take Marketing you need to first take Intro to Business 1 & 2 Four Year Plan
