2 The Scheduling Process
Today- receive Course Selection Sheet & Course Catalog to take home and review with parents HS Counselors return to review course selections with students individually: Meredith MS- Tuesday, February 28th Redding MS- Wednesday, March 1st Waters MS- Thursday, March 2nd (AHS & MHS) & Friday, March 3rd (AHS only)

3 School Choice Choice information has not yet been entered in our computer system If you were approved to choice to a different school within our district, please see your school counselor for a course selection sheet. When we return next week, please meet with the counselor of the high school you will be attending.

4 Students attending a different school
If you know you will not be attending AHS/MHS next year, we still need you to complete a course request form. We will keep your course request form until we receive notification from the new school you will be attending.

5 Graduation Requirements
Course Units of Credit English 4 Mathematics 4 Social Studies 3 Science 3 World Languages 2 Career Pathway 3 Electives 3.5 Physical Education 1 Health Senior Project/Capstone 0.5 Student Success Plan 0.5 *This is the minimum # of credits required. Your pathway will determine the # of credits needed to graduate.

6 Promotion/Retention Requirements
In order to be promoted to 10th grade: Students must take a full schedule in 9th grade (8 credits) Students must earn 5 credits: 4 of which must be English, math, science and social studies Students who do not meet these criteria will be scheduled into appropriate courses the next year/semester *Students must pass all 9th grade core classes & 1 elective to be eligible to take Drivers Education in 10th grade*

8 Career Pathway A planned program of sequenced or specialized courses designed to develop knowledge and skills in a particular career area A minimum of 3 credits in a Career Pathway are required for graduation. Most pathways require 4 or 5 credits. Specific pathway requirements are listed in the course catalog

13 Block Scheduling Students will have four 90-minute periods per semester. Each period is a “block” All courses except Chorus, Orchestra, and Band will be offered in a 90 minute block period for one semester Chorus, Orchestra, and Band will be offered all year, every other day

College Preparatory Courses (CP) 9th - 12th grade Honors Courses 9th – 12th grade Advanced Placement (AP) Dual Enrollment 11th & 12th grade

15 Math Sequencing Students in 8th grade math will take Integrated Math I in 9th grade. Students in Advanced Math (Integrated Math I) in 8th grade will take Integrated Math II (CP or Honors) in 9th grade. Students can “double up” on math courses (Int. Math II Honors & Int. Math III Honors) in 9th grade, but you are required to take a math course all 4 years of high school.

Talk to your current teachers What level do they recommend for you? Talk to your parents/guardians What do they recommend and support? Talk to your counselors What do they advise for you?

You will circle a total 8 courses: English Mathematics Science Social Studies Health/Physical Education World Language 2 Career Pathway/Electives You will select 2 alternate electives on the back in case your 1st choice is not available
