2 Credits, What Are They? Credits are earned each semester ½ Credit at a time. ½ credit = One Semester Your achievement is measured by YOUR EFFORT AND WORK! Must earn a 70 or above to receive credit Graduation based on credit accumulation Must have 23 Carnegie units or Credits to graduate Must earn 4 credits to be a Soph., 10 to be a Junior, and 17 to be a Senior.

4 End of Course Tests - Test will count 20% of Final Grade! MATH Algebra 1* and Geometry SCIENCE Physical Science And Biology* LANGUAGE ARTS 9th grade English* And American Lit SOCIAL STUDIES US History And Economic * These are Freshmen Classes.

5 SO WHAT WILL A TYPICAL 9 TH GRADE SCHEDULE LOOK LIKE! English: Lit/comp 9 (Regular, Honors, Inclusion or ESOL) Math: Algebra (Regular, Honors or Inclusion) Geometry Honors Coordinate Algebra Support Foundations or Algebra (Pre Algebra) Science: Either Environmental Science or Biology (Regular, Honors or Inclusion) Social Studies: Civics (Regular or Honors) Required World Geography (Regular or Honors) Academic Elective Transition to High School – Recommendation from the Middle School Health/Personal Fitness: Electives: CTAE or Fine Arts It is Strongly Recommended that students begin course work in a Pathway.

6 Available Electives for 9 th graders: Comprehensive Art/Drawing 1 Band Beginning Ensemble (Color Guard) by Audition only Beginning Guitar and/or Beginning Keyboard (Piano) Chorus Intro to Business and Technology JROTC Basic Maintenance and Light Repair Basic Agricultural Science and Technology Introduction to Healthcare Science Intro to Law and Public Safety. Introduction to Early Childhood Education Introduction to Digital Technology.

7 CTAE: Career Technical and Agricultural Education Agriculture Business Management & Administration Family and Consumer Science Healthcare Science Junior Recruit Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Transportation Law, Public Safety, Corrections, & Security Early Childhood Education

8 CTAE Pathway Programs Students are encouraged to complete a pathway in a focused area of interest. By concentrating on one of these pathways, students will be more college and career ready when they graduate. Students may also take courses outside of their career pathway. State is considering requiring a CTAE pathway for all students, at present it is recommended.

10 Courses that are not open to 9 th graders: Spanish I, II, III Modern Languages are available starting with the students Sophomore year. Drivers Education : We only have 54 slots per year and they are reserved for Juniors and Soph.

11 9 th Grade Notes; All Academic Classes will be in the 9 th grade wing. Within the 9 th grade wing we have 5 computer labs. Success of the 9 th grade wing = for the class of 2018 which consisted of 260 incoming freshmen we had all students move on to the 10 th grade. Students need to have 4 credits to be a 10 th grader, 10 credits to be an 11 th grader and 17 credits to be a Senior. 9 th grade year’s schedule will be a 7 period day. Some classes in the 10 th – 12 th grade will be blocked (taking a full year in one semester) All 9 th graders are eligible for athletics when they start in the fall but for second semester they must pass 2.5 of 3.5 (per semester) subjects to be eligible to play sports. Athletes must also be on grade level. Registration Dates are Feb. 25 th, and March 1 st in the Auxiliary Room of the 9 th grade wing. You will be notified of your appointment time. If you don’t have an appointment notice by Feb. 22 nd please call the school for your date and time.
