9  Teachers will make course and level recommendations for students based on grades and/or work ethic. You will be able to see these recommendations in Power School through the Portal.

10  If parents wish to over-ride the recommendation of the teacher, students will be given an over- ride form that the teacher must complete so that the family can make an informed decision about the course selection.

12  Honors and Advanced Placement Level courses will have summer work. Please check the WAHS website for any summer assignments.

13  Electives are a means for students to explore new interests, and to prepare for career plans after high school.

14  Yearbook  Journalism  Leadership  AVID All course applications must be completed by February 26 in order for you to be considered for that class. Applications are available online or from your counselor

15  WAHS  Environmental Science  AHS  MESA  MOHS  Health and Medical Science  Online Applications are due for each Academy, and are due by January 29, 2016. Students accepted into an academy will have their schedule adjusted by the counselor of the high school they will attend.

16 The Fine Arts Pathway at WAHS will provide opportunities for Fine Arts students to gain additional recognition, rigorous experiences, and college and career skills, both within the school and community. In addition to course study, students will participate in internships, job shadowing, and a capstone project during their high school career. Art Ceramics Crafts Digital Imaging Photography Band Orchestra Choral Creative Writing Theatre. Students wanting to complete a Pathway will be able to enter the program prior to their freshman or sophomore years. Students, however, do not have to be involved in a Pathway to enroll in a Fine Arts course.

17  Health I  Health II  (No Driver’s Ed)  Personal Finance  Beginning summer of 2015 and beyond:  PE I  PE II  PE courses will require students to attend school on specific dates for fitness tests

18  You will receive a letter from Henley that indicates your scheduled appointment with your student and counselor to discuss course registration.

19  Students and parents will have the ability to register for courses via Power School from 5:00 PM December 18 through January 31.  If you have not received your log-in information for Power School, please visit the HMS Counseling Office – with ID – to get it.

20  All Course Registration information will be made available through the front page of the WAHS website.

21  Family Activities  Athletics  Community Service  Work

22  All families will receive course verification letters in the mail this spring. Please carefully examine this letter to check for accuracy of courses and levels. Directions will be given to make necessary changes.

23  Choose your courses carefully. Be sure that you understand your teachers’ recommendations.  If you decide to make a change after meeting with your counselor, ask to meet with your counselor again to make a course request change.  No schedule request changes (including level changes) will be made after April 29, 2016.

24  Please be sure to see your counselor if you have questions about your courses for next year.
