Welcome, Introductions, Expectations, Rules and Procedures

Questions You May Have…  Who is this guy?  We will talk about that today?  New Student?  Nope.  Is he seriously “full grown”?  Yes. I don’t want to talk about it.

Mr./Coach Wallace  Grew up in Huntsville, AL  Youngest of 3 boys  Went to college at Troy (State) University  Married 9 ½ years  3 kids  2 dogs

Still Me  Taught at Ombudsman for 5+ years  Coached football past 7 years  Avid sports fan  Love entertainment (TV, movies, games, music, etc.)  Questions?

Expectations  Common Core Standards  These are our floor, not our ceiling  The ceiling will be based on individual students  Your best  The only thing I’m asking for is…  Behavior/Academic expectations:  Comply with the school and class rules (this includes items in the Code of Conduct handbook, as well as the tardy and late work policy listed on the syllabus.)  Follow procedures  Respect the learning environment and all the people in it

Rules  1. Be Safe: Keep hands, feet, and any objects to yourself at all times. Walk wherever you are going.  2. Be Respectful: Always raise your hand and wait to obtain permission before speaking out. Remember that all students have the right to learn and work in a quiet environment. Treat teachers and students as you would want to be treated.  3. Be Responsible: Arrive to class on time. Enter the classroom quietly and immediately go to your assigned seat. Turn in work completed homework on time and in the assigned location.

Rules (cont.)  4. Be Prepared: Bring all necessary items to class each day. Come into class each day ready to learn.  5. Be Productive: Use class time wisely and effectively at all times. Remain seated, and working, at your desk unless you have been given permission to get up.

Consequences – for minor classroom disruptions/violations  1. First Offense – Verbal warning  2. Second Offense – Stay after class to meet with teacher  3. Third Offense – Detention  4. Fourth Offense – Phone call/Letter to parents  5. Fifth Offense – Office referral  Note: Consequences could be altered depending on the severity of the action. Some consequences will be based on set school standards.

Procedures  Entering the Room  Enter room quietly and go to your seat  Get started on work that is on the board  In absence of board work, please read quietly at your desk  Asking a Question  Raise your hand  Wait to be acknowledged before speaking out

Procedures (cont.)  Leaving Your Seat/Leaving the Room  Raise your hand, wait to be acknowledged and given permission before getting up  Conduct intended business quietly and efficiently and return to your seat  Take a hall pass and return to the classroom in a timely manner  Emergency situations can be handled accordingly  Lectures, Presentations, Readings, Videos, etc.  Listen attentively (head up, taking notes, participate in discussions, etc.)  Follow general procedures for asking questions, leaving seat, cell phones, etc.

Procedures (cont.)  Cell Phones  Keep them put away unless directed by teacher  When allowed, use them for the intended purpose  Classwork/Group Work  Academic integrity – if caught cheating or allowing another student to cheat will result in an automatic zero.  When allowed to work with others do so in a proper tone and volume  End of Class  Wait on me to direct you to stop working  Listen quietly for further directions or assignments  Exit the room quietly and orderly
