Outline Page n 1” margins? n Thesis included? n Doublespaced? n I & IIs, A & Bs, 1. & 2.s? n Titles punctuated? n Statements, not ?s n No page # & last name

Page Formatting n One inch margin all around n Name & page # on each page of body? n Everything double-spaced? n No double-double-spacing? n Additional pages u Title page – see yellow sheet (no page #) u Outline (no page #) u Works Cited (yes – page #)

Long Quote Check-up n Find at least one “long quote”? n Formatted correctly? u Double-spaced u Same font size/style u Double indented? u No added indent on first line u No quote marks (unless q-in-q) u Goes to right margin? n Is quote introduced? n Is quote explained afterward?

Citation & Quote Count n Underline & number each citation! n Are there at least 8? n REMEMBER only sources used in paper go on Works Cited page! n Can you match citations to Works Cited page (if there)?

That’s a Citation, Buddy! n Compare quote formatting u Does yours match theirs? u Who’s right? Who needs to fix theirs? n Parentheses – page #, author, title n No commas (except with “qtd. in” & author, title citations) n For titles listed in your citations -- are they in quote marks or italics? – THEY NEED TO BE!

Check Your Conclusion n Does it restate thesis statement? u Is intro slant reflected/repeated? n At least 5-6 lines long in print? n Stay in 3 rd person? – THAT’S GOOD! n Introduce new ideas not mentioned in paper? – THAT’S NOT GOOD!

Playing the Length Game 6-7 pages is more than the average paper!

GOAL: Longer & Better n Go to outline... u obvious Roman numerals to add? u every A have B & 1 have 2 u logical to add C’s or 3’s? n Intro & conclusion fully developed? u adding “quality quote” possible? n Each quote introduced & explained?

Longer & “Quotier” n Can you add another long quote? u improve support for a point u not look like “filler” n What makes “good” quote? u said “better” than you could say u supports your thesis u Authoritative source F Mark Twain & Anne of Green Gables n May be better to add several “shorter” long quotes than one whopper!

Playing the font game n Know the rules! (Your prof sets them) u 10-point Times + 10 pages = ??? n Point size range (10-12) n Font width u Not all fonts are created equal F in width  try substituting Souvenir for Times  substitute a monospaced font (Courier)
