The Medieval World and Beyond. We will use the 7th grade English Language Arts standards as our guide in reading, writing and grammar. We use the Momentum Writing philosophy as used across the district. In our class, we will also work on organization, time-management, responsibility and becoming life-long learners. My goal as your teacher is to be sure you are ready for 8th grade and beyond, not just academically, but also personally. Communication & Support Write everything in your planner Ask questions in class Make an appointment if you’re absent or need extra help Give all forms, flyers & notes to your parents Email me if YOU have a questions

Policies & Procedures Absent/Late Work Policy Late Work – unless you have an extenuating circumstance, daily work that is not submitted by the beginning of class will earn half credit. All late work must be turned in the following Monday. Projects and writing assignments will be lowered ONE letter grade each week it is turned in late. Absent Work – It is your responsibility to check the absent folder for any work you missed while you were absent. Your homework will not be marked late for a legal absence. Known long-term projects are due the day you return to school. For daily assignments, you have one day for every day you are absent to complete the work. Tests & Quizzes – If you are absent the day of a scheduled test or quiz, you must make an appointment to do the make-up either before or after school within ONE week of being absent. Trimester Grade Breakdown 30% Content Knowledge (tests, quizzes, and essays),  20% Work Ethic & Productivity (homework) 25% Communication & Collaboration (participation & group work) 25% Reading Foundational Rules Foundational classroom and school rules are to be safe, respectful and responsible. All students are expected to be respectful to themselves, their peers, all staff, and our classroom. This means you will be prepared to learn and engage in meaningful discussions, keep an open mind, and be kind and courteous to your classmates and your teachers. Homework Policy Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday. It’s rare you will have weekend homework unless you have been absent, off-task in class or have a big project due. You are expected to spend a minimum, of 30-40 minutes on homework each night, including reading a personal choice book. Your homework is important and dependent on what we are learning in class. Planner use is mandatory! Cellphone/Technology Policy Cellphones ARE NOT permitted to be used in the classroom unless special permission is made for an in class project. **Please see handbook for school policy and consequences. Laptops are issued to students based on their student number. Students need to follow classroom policy when using computers in class otherwise privileges will be limited or take away.
