Classroom Signals/Chants: * Class/Yes - Get class’s attention, Teacher says “Class”, students respond “Yes” and clasp hands. *Hands and Eyes - Students must clasp hands and eyes on speaker. *STAR - Teacher says STAR (name of person), students repeat and give all attention to that person.

More Signals and Cues *Be Productive - Teacher says “Be productive!”, students respond “Be.. productive, be be productive...work!” *Lines- Teacher says “Lines”, students say “Lines, lines, lines” and lines up quietly. *Seats- Teacher says “Seats”, students say “Seats, seats, seats” and sits down quietly. *Back to Work- Teacher says “Back to Work”, students repeat 3 times and get back to work. *Bodies and Chairs- Teacher says “Bodies and Chairs”, students repeat 3 times and stands up, pushes in chair and stands next to it. *Papers - Teacher says “Papers”, students repeat 3 times while passing out papers as quickly as possible.

Morning Routines It’s quiet time, only whispering if necessary Get ready for the day: Pencils sharpened, all materials ready, hang backpacks on rack Pledge/Announcements – Stop all activity and talking, show respect Bell work: “Mini Math” or any other assignment posted on board – work on this quietly

During Instruction When teacher is instructing, everyone else must be listening. Follow all class rules – 3 B’s, 5 rules. Work cooperatively with team. Use complete sentences when speaking, it is a school-wide expectation. Write legibly, keeping notes and written work neat and organized. Label all work with name and date at top left hand side of paper.

Intervention Procedures: While working on learning stations or small group with the teacher, the expectation is for everyone to be working productively on given activities. If teacher is working with a small group, no one is allowed to interrupt. (Use the “3 before me” approach) If done with activity, work on another learning station/center.

Lunch Procedures: Walk in a straight and quiet line in hall on the way to lunch. When walking in a line outside, talking quietly is allowed, but must remain in line all the way to the cafeteria. Follow cafeteria expectations. Use the restroom at lunch recess, be ready to learn when you get back to class!

Student Leaders Class Helper: Responsible to assist the teacher for a week. For example, passing out paper, helping with attendance, collecting work, holding the door, run errands, etc. Environmental Patrol: Responsible to make sure the classroom is tidy throughout the day, may politely ask others to pick up mess around desk, straighten bookshelves, keep trash and recyclables sorted, monitor classroom/hallway noise. Line Leader: Responsible to lead the class to any destination, modeling the correct line behavior for the rest of the class to follow.

More Student Leaders… Technology Crew: Responsible for passing out and collecting ipads and headphones. (One Boy/One Girl) Student Substitute: Responsible to take the place of any of students who have jobs and are absent. Team Leaders: Responsible to make sure team is working productively and quietly. Gathers any materials for team as needed.

Leader Keeps team on task and working productively

Speaker Shares team’s work with teacher or class

Writer Takes notes, writes answers

Researcher Uses resources like computer or books to help team find answers to questions

Materials Manager Gathers, distributes materials for team

Assistant Assists with anyone on team as needed

Sharpening Pencils Sharpen pencils at the beginning of class, not during instruction. If a sharpened pencil is needed during instruction, use the silent signal (raise hand with pencil and wave it a little) and wait for teacher to respond. Replace dull pencil with a sharpened pencil in the pencil basket on the counter. Always be prepared, have back up pencils ready. You may use a portable pencil sharpener at your table as needed. Colored pencils must be sharpened with a portable pencil sharpener.

Restroom/Water Breaks Morning, Lunch, and Afternoon recesses are for drinks and restroom breaks. If an emergency, give teacher the “silent signal” – For restroom break (Raise hand with crossed fingers), wait for teacher’s response. Do not ask to use the restroom during instruction time if it is not an emergency. Independent worktime is the best time to go if needed, one boy and one girl at a time. Log time leaving class in the “Restroom Log” when you leave class and when you return to class. There is no break during instruction time for water (you may bring your own water bottle to hydrate during class time, otherwise wait for recess or when teacher gives permission.

End of Day Procedures: Date and Write any “Reminders”, “HW”, or “What Was Learned” in your planner. Clean classroom- Pick up trash off the floor, tables need to be cleaned off. Sharpen pencils to be ready for the next day. Get backpacks ready to go home with planner and any homework or book to read. Read quietly at desk (This is the signal that you are ready to go) Wait for teacher’s direction. Teacher will walk students outside, bus riders go to designated location, pick-ups and walkers have to give high 5 to the teacher before leaving.

Everyday Homework Read for 20+ minutes -Goal is to read at least one chapter book a week Study Math Facts -May use online Math apps, flash cards, or any other learning strategy that may help.

Any Questions?
