1 Ms. Jeter’s Classroom Procedures
3rd Grade Westview Elementary School

2 Morning Routines When the students arrive at my classroom door, they will be greeted with a hug. When the students walk into the classroom they should unpack their book bags and hang them up on their wall hooks. The students should then make their lunch choices on the promethean board and turn in homework from the night before. Once the students are settled, they should begin the morning assignment.

3 Asking Questions/Permission
Students who need to ask questions or permission to complete a task will need to raise their hand quietly. If the student needs to go the the restroom, get some water, or talk with me, they are obligated to wait quietly until I can assist them.

4 Classroom Jobs Each student will have a job throughout the day. The jobs include: Classroom clean up crew, pencil sharpener crew, lunch crew, restroom crew, teacher helper, and group helpers. The jobs will change every two weeks so that the students will have the chance to participate in every way.

5 Turning In Papers When papers need to be turned in, team group leaders will be responsible for turning in their teammates work. The group leader will check to see if everyone has their name on their paper and to make sure their work is completed. The group leader will make sure the papers are in the correct place.

6 Walking in the Hallway Students must walk down the hallway quietly and like 3rd graders. Their hands should be kept by their side and each student should walk according to the West View standards. Talking or playing while in the hallway will not be tolerated.

7 Snack Time Students are welcome to bring snacks during school hours. Our snack time will range from minutes in the morning. Students are also allowed to bring water bottles that can be kept on their desks during the day. If the students do not have a snack, I will provide snacks if available.

8 Using the Restroom Students are asked to use the restroom before entering the classroom each day. The class will take two trips to the restroom. If the student needs to use the restroom during class time, they will have to grab the restroom pass. If possible, the students should avoid using the restroom during class time.

9 Direct Instruction During direct instruction, the students should stay at their desks and they must raise their hands if they have a question or statement. Students should not get out of their seats unless told to do so. In order for the entire class to learn, we must remain focused during instruction.

10 Partner or Group Work Students are encouraged to work together when asked to do so. The classroom and their student desks will remain in groups to activate the student- centered classroom that we will achieve this year! Partners and groups must remember to stay focused on the assignment and to have cooperative attitudes. If the students’ behavior is unacceptable, they may not be able to participate in partner or group work.

11 Individual Work Students will often be asked to work on assignments by themselves. Students should not collaborate during this time and should focus on completing the activity silently.

12 Quizzes and Tests Students will take quizzes and tests on a regular basis. Before a quiz or test, students should put their study materials away, clear their desks, and take out a cover sheet to use. When the students are finished, test and quizzes should be turned in at the appropriate place. Students should raise their hands if they have any questions during this time and are to remain silent until all quizzes or tests have been handed in to the teacher. Cheating of any kind will not be tolerated.

13 Lunch Time Every day the class will line up by lunch choice and walk quietly to lunch. At the beginning of the year students will be able to pick where they want to sit. If not handled properly, there will be table assignments for each student. Students must remember to use table manners, and clean up the table and floor in their area before leaving the lunch room.

14 Recess Recess will be a privilege for students everyday. Students must remember to use equipment safely and properly, and they must always keep their hands and feet to themselves. Anyone who takes advantage of the freedom provided during recess time will lose recess privileges and will be limited to a more structured exercise time.

15 After an Absence Students will be absent from time to time throughout the year. So when students return from an absences, they pick up their missed assignments from the missed assignments folder. When the students return, they can look at the missed assignments folder to see what they have missed. They must remember to speak with the teacher to discuss missed content and to set a due date for the make-up work, or ask their group to help them if they have a question.

16 Finishing Early If some students finish an assignment early, they should spend time checking over their work. Afterwards, they may read a book or complete an unfinished assignment until it is time for the whole class to move on together.

17 Emergency Drills Emergency drills will be practiced throughout the school year. When the alarm sounds the teacher will give specific instructions that the students should follow quickly, quietly, and safely. Misbehavior will not be tolerated during these drills, and the students should remember to take these drills seriously.

18 Water Fountains Students will have the opportunity to visit the water fountain during restroom breaks and after recess. When given permission, the students may go to the water fountain during instruction if needed.

19 Classroom Visitors The teacher will have visitors in the classroom throughout the year. Students may say hello to visitors when they enter, but students will not be allowed to disrupt learning time by having conversation with visitors. Students must be focused at all times and they should be on their best behavior as well!

20 Phone Calls Sometimes the teacher will receive phone calls during class time. If the teacher quickly has to take a call, students should quietly work on an assignment until the teacher is done with the call.

21 Afternoon Routine At the end of the day, the teacher will allow all of the students to clean and be apart of the classroom clean up crew. Groups will be called one at a time to pack up book bags and will stack their chairs after packing their bags. Students will make sure the room is clean and ready for dismissal. The teacher will call students who are ready to line up, and she will say goodbye to each student at the door after the class is dismissed.

22 Transitions Between lessons throughout the day transition music will be played so that the students know when it is time to begin another lesson. Students should always be focused and ready to learn!

23 “Tickets Galore” Every class has their own way to bring the class together and to work according to the West View standards. In Ms. Jeter’s class, the 3rd grade students will work as groups to earn tickets throughout the school year. Each day the students will have the opportunity to earn tickets as a group for good behavior, on-task learning, and role modeling. At the end of each week, the group with the most tickets will have the chance to win prizes out of the prize box. Which includes awesome coupons, school supplies, fun toys, and more!

24 Parent/Teacher Contact
It is so important to Ms. Jeter that the students in her classroom earn the best education that is available. In order to do so, communication between the parent and teacher is extremely important. Communication this year will include remind 101, text messages, weekly behavior sheets, and phone calls. To get in contact with Ms. Jeter it is important that you are familiar with the students’ planner, our class website, and the schools’ phone number. Please feel free to contact me anytime!
