T. Mercer Absentee Policy Technology Need help? 3rd ALG 1 T. Mercer 2017-18 Absentee Policy 2016-2017 * YES, WE DID SOMETHING IMPORTANT WHILE YOU WERE ABSENT. * It is the student’s responsibility to check the file folder on my desk for any handouts that were missed. There is also a notebook in the front of the classroom with assignments that were assigned. The student will need to turn in any missing work from an absence ASAP into the make up box on the back table. * A student has two extra days to turn in any work assigned on a day a student was absent. If a quiz or test was administered on a day a student was absent, the quiz or test must be made up on the first day the student returns. If previously assigned work was due on the day of the absence, the work is due on the first day the student returns. Technology A scientific calculator will be required (TI-30), which you will be assigned a number to use in class only. In addition, the Graphing Calculator (TI-83), will be checked out from the library.***DO NOT LOSE the TI-83. It is your responsibility to pay $125 if you lose it. CELLPHONE POLICY:  You will not be allowed to use your cell phone in class for personal reasons (i.e texting, calling, checking social media sites, listening to music, or playing games).  You will not be allowed to charge your phone in the wall receptacles or via computer ports. You are expected to place your cellphone in the designated holder in your assigned spot where the phone will remain until the end of the period.  At the end of class, each student will retrieve HIS or HER own phone.  Failure to place your phone in the caddy (or placing a non-working phone, extra phone or phone case in lieu of your phone) can and will result in the loss of your cell phones for an extended period of time.   1st offense is until the end of the day, 2nd offense the offender will have his/her phone relinquished to the front office for a period of 3 days as specified in the student handbook. Need help? Help is available after school Monday -Thursday from 3:05-3:30, unless I have a meeting or an appointment. Come for help on a regular basis if you need it. Don’t wait until the end of the nine weeks!! MORE ON EACH NINE WEEKS GRADES… Tests—30% Quizes/Some performance tasts—25% Homework/Special Assignments/Particiaption/Classwork/Notebook—25% Homework--Each week you will receive a homework average. This average is based upon effort of each day’s assignment. You will be graded on the number of problems you attempt out of how many are assigned. At the end of the week, I will compute the week’s average based on how many times it is checked that week. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU MAKE SURE YOU DO ALL ASSIGNMENTS AND MAKE SURE THAT I SEE THE WORK, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE ABSENT. Participation--This is a grade that comes from your being responsible and your willingness to do problems on the board when asked. You will start with a grade of 100 and 5 points will be deducted at any point that you come unprepared for class (no book, no pencil/pen, or paper), tardy, getting out of your desk without permission during lecture time, sleeping, or choosing not to go to the board. Notebook--You are required to keep a notebook this semester. Please follow these guidelines: Divide your notebook into 3 sections. a. Bellwork ***This is actually where the “notebook” grade will come from*** b. Notes/homework c. Returned quizzes and/or papers Label each homework assignment. Put the date on the first page of each new day’s bellwork and notes. ****If you are absent, you are responsible for copying the bellwork and notes from another student. You also need to make up the homework assignment.
