3rd Declension Nouns: The Basics

3rd Decl. Basics 3rd decl. nouns = most common noun type Identify by the –is in the gen. sg. Nom. SG = completely irregular, must be memorized this is why it’s included in the dictionary entry Unlike decl. 1-2, 3rd decl. nouns can be masc., fem., or neut. There are TWO types/ending sets: Masculine & Feminine Neuter

3rd Decl. Basics Within the 2 types, there are 2 subsets: Masculine & Feminine: (1a.) “Regular” (1b.) i-stems 2. Neuter (2a.) “Regular” (2b.) i-stems *We’ll only be dealing with “regular” masc. & fem. 3rd decl. nouns today*
