Read Aloud, Think Aloud The teacher models the strategies for effective reading. The student follows along on the computer while the book is read. The student is actively engaged in the learning process of becoming a better reader.

Read Aloud, Think Aloud C: Conversation level 0 (This means there should be no talking at all!) H: Help (If you need help, please raise your hand, wait silently for teacher) A: Activity (Students should be actively listening and following along while teacher is reading) M: Movement should be 0. (No movement necessary without permission) P: Participation (Students should be tracking as teacher reads) S: SUCCESS! (Do all of these things and you WILL be successful!)

Classroom Conversation A chance for us to interact with each other about the book from the Read Aloud/ Think Aloud.

Whole Group The students are provided with instruction about the skills needed to be a better reader. For instance, we might discuss: Character Development Cause and Effect Author’s Purpose, etc.

Whole Group (teacher instruction) C: Conversation level 0 (This means there should be no talking at all!) H: Help (If you need help, please raise your hand, wait silently for teacher to call on you) A: Activity (Students should be paying attention and taking notes in notebook on lesson) M: Movement should be 0. (Students should be in their seats quietly taking notes) P: Participation (Students should have notebooks open actively taking notes) S: SUCCESS! (Do all of these things and you WILL be successful!)

Work Time Students will work independently to complete the Interactive Reader and Independent Reading along with any other assignments sent by the teacher to improve the student’s reading problems.

Work Time C: Conversation level 1 (ACCOUNTABLE TALK--you may whisper or talk quietly with a peer about assignments) H: Help (Ask 3 before me. Refer to 3 of your peers, before you speak to teacher) A: Activity (Students should be completing assigned work) M: Movement should be 0. (No movement without permission) P: Participation (Students will be on computers actively typing and reading ) S: SUCCESS! (Do all of these things and you WILL be successful!)

Interactive Reader This assignment will be completed during the Work Time. It will help the teacher know what level the student is currently at. It will help determine what level the student should be in during Time to Read (Independent Reading). It is kind of like a little “quiz.”

Interactive Reader C: Conversation level 1 (ACCOUNTABLE TALK- Students may whisper and request assistance from their peers (regarding instructions)!) H: Help (If you need help, please raise your hand, wait silently for teacher, or ask a peer) A: Activity (Students should be reading and completing IRs) M: Movement should be 0. (Students should be in their seats completing IRs) P: Participation (Students should be actively responding to their interactive readers) S: SUCCESS! (Do all of these things and you WILL be successful!)

Teacher-Led Small Group The teacher will work with small groups of students on common problem reading areas (for instance decoding, phonics, syllabication, etc.). This occurs during the Work Time.

Teacher-Led Group C: Conversation level 1 (ACCOUNTABLE TALK--you may talk quietly with teacher and peers when appropriate) H: Help (Ask and refer to teacher and peers that are in teacher led group as well) A: Activity (Students should be working on vocabulary, spelling & reading strategies) M: Movement should be 0. (No movement without permission) P: Participation (Students will be actively writing/typing and following along with activity) S: SUCCESS! (Do all of these things and you WILL be successful!)

Wrap Up We will have a short discussion about what we have learned and where we are heading. The computers will be logged off and left on the desks.

Transitions C: Conversation level 1 (Students may whisper and assist each other) H: Help (Ask 3 before me. Refer to 3 of your peers, before you speak to teacher) A: Activity (Students should be quietly moving towards new Activity) M: Movement should be safe, purposeful, quick and smooth towards designated location. (None after transition) P: Participation (Students are moving safely to their designated location) S: SUCCESS! (Do all of these things and you WILL be successful!)

Unit Study Plans C: Conversation level 1 (ACCOUNTABLE TALK- Students may whisper and request assistance from their peers (regarding instructions)!) H: Help (If you need help, please raise your hand, wait silently for teacher, or ask a peer) A: Activity (Students should be reading and completing study plans) M: Movement should be 0. (Students should be in their seats completing study plans) P: Participation (Students should be completing the study plans) S: SUCCESS! (Do all of these things and you WILL be successful!)

Weekly Reading Check C: Conversation level 1 (ACCOUNTABLE TALK- Students may whisper and request assistance from their peers!) H: Help (If you need help, please raise your hand, wait silently for teacher, or ask a peer) A: Activity (Students should be reading and completing study plans) M: Movement should be 0. (Students should be in their seats completing study plans) P: Participation (Students should be selecting the answers they chose for study plans) S: SUCCESS! (Do all of these things and you WILL be successful!)

Group Work C: Conversation level 2 (ACCOUNTABLE TALK--you may talk quietly with your GROUP only about the activity that is being completed H: Help (Ask 3 before me. Refer to 3 of your peers, before you speak to teacher) A: Activity (Students should be completing assigned work) M: Movement should be 0. (None after transition.) P: Participation (computer is on and student is “ in-progress” of assignment. Teacher will randomly verify on teacher dashboard.) S: SUCCESS! (Do all of these things and you WILL be successful!)
