1 Ms. Garvin’s ELA Expectations

2 Expectations and Procedures
Beginning of class Enter the room quietly and in an orderly manner Make sure you have all necessary materials. Sit in your assigned seat and get started on the Do Now immediately. If there was homework from the previous day assigned, have it out on your desk along with your PBIS conduct card. Write down your homework in your agenda.

3 Expectations and Procedures
During class Activities and assignments will have set volume levels since there may be multiple activities going on simultaneously. You are expected to maintain that volume level for your task and to stay focused on the task that you have been assigned. Pencils should be sharpened before class begins or with permission during non- whole class instruction. Assignments must be turned in to the drawer for your class on time. If there is an emergency and you need an extra day, see me to make arrangements.

4 Expectations and Procedures
During class We will be using computers daily. Make sure you are on the website or app you are supposed to be at all times. If you are caught more than once it will result in circles on your conduct card, detention, parent contact, or revoking of laptop privileges. If you finish early with all assignments and tasks, you may read silently in your library book, or borrow one from the class library. Homework Daily you will read at least 20 minutes and complete the reading log for the day. There will also be other homework that is designed to reinforce skills learned in class. You are expected to do all homework that you are assigned. Charge laptops nightly.

5 Expectations and Procedures
We are a class community and family. I expect all to show respect for everyone (teacher, classmates, and self). You may not always agree with what is said in a class discussion, but you are still expected to show respect. If the ‘community’ is unable to pull themselves together (positive attitude, prepared for class, and ready to learn) the teacher has full authority to change activities and assignments for that day.

6 Expectations and Procedures
Group Work Talking- don’t talk to other groups; only the people in YOUR group should hear you (whisper or talk quietly) Movement to/from- wait until all instructions have been given, then move quickly and quietly to be with your group; at the end of group work, straighten up and move quickly and quietly back to your seat Expected Behavior- do your part of the work; be respectful of group mates’ opinions and ideas; use your time wisely

7 Expectations and Procedures
Bathroom and Pencil Sharpener: Please use the bathroom and/or pencil sharpener before class begins. Do not ask to use them during class. (If an emergency arises, upon teacher approval you may take care of this quickly and quietly.) Your conduct card will be marked for one of your bathroom passes. Absences: If you were absent from class the previous day, you are responsible for writing down and making up assignments or homework. Please discuss this with me before or after school, during transitions, or before class begins. Check the “While You Were Out” folder for any handouts you may have missed.
