2. Rotation Stations
Rotation Stations will become a big part of our ELA class. It will allow you to do meaningful work independently during class. Rotation Stations will include a variety of stations like: 1) Meet with teacher 2) Skill Work 3) Writing/Working on Conventions 4) Vocabulary Work 5) Read-to-Self/Listen-to-Reading

Every group will meet with me weekly, but we will still have some whole group instruction as well.
Bring a pen or pencil and your ELA notebook.
With you will work on:
Stories and Reading Skills
Comprehension
Writing Skills
Test-taking Strategies

Bring all materials: ELA notebook and pencil.
Pay close attention.
Stay on task.
Be respectful.
Work the entire time.
Follow all directions.

After the Meet-with-Teacher Day, you will be working on related assignments, including any of the following:
Stories and Reading Skills
Comprehension
Writing Skills
Test-taking Strategies
Review

Stay on task.
Follow all directions.
Be respectful of group and classmates.
Work until the timer goes off or signaled.
If you finish early, read to self or study vocabulary.

14. 3. Writing/Conventions
You will work on a writing assignment or conventions of Standard English in this station.
Lessons will include:
Readtheory.org or another similar website
NoRedInk.com
Writing assignments
Practice with capitalization, usage and grammar, punctuation, and spelling

Having time to focus on words is critical to your development as a reader, writer, speaker and listener.
You will work on:
Vocabulary Words
Practice work with the Vocabulary Words
Add to your knowledge of interesting words
Prefixes, Suffixes and Root Words
Be prepared to bring index cards to class for this rotation when our supply dwindles.

18. 4. Vocabulary- Make Vocabulary Flashcards:
Write the word on the front.
Write the definition of the word on the back.
Take plastic bag to store your vocabulary cards. PUT YOUR NAME on or in your bag.
You are responsible for keeping the cards to use in your studying to prepare for the vocabulary test.

Students will get their independent reading book one from the classroom library and sit quietly at desks and read.

Choose a book.
Purpose – Why do I want to read it?
Interest – Does it interest me?
Comprehend – Do I understand what I am reading?
Know – I know most of the words.

Get started right away
Stay at the listening station or your desk if on Kindle
Listen quietly
Ignore distractions listen for all but the last 5 minutes
Check for understanding by writing responses and/or reflections
Work until you hear the timer go off or are signaled
Return materials to the basket.

27. Read to Self
Any time you are finished with your work, you should be reading independently.
REMEMBER to become better at reading, you need to read; therefore, any extra time should be dedicated to reading.

28. Behavior Note:
If you are not doing what you’re supposed to do at any station, you will practice appropriate behavior during lunch or after school.
Detention will be assigned as needed.
