System 44/ELA 7/8th grade

 System 44 is a reading intervention program designed to help students increase their reading and writing skills through intensive independent and group exercises. Each day, we will rotate through three different groups: Independent Reading, Small Group Instruction, and Computer Time. We will use technology, literature and expository texts as a base, incorporating critical reading and writing skills. When a student reaches a lexile score of 600 or greater, they will be considered for reassignment into a Read 180 class. We will also be using Google Classroom and Canvas as additional classroom management systems. Curriculum is aligned with the Common Core State Standards. Course Description

  The System 44 Model for Blended Learning combines adaptive technology and teacher-led instruction to help students become proficient readers, writers, speakers, and critical thinkers. System 44 Classroom

  The System 44 Instructional Technology is intelligent and adaptive, collecting data based on individual responses and adjusting instruction to meet each student’s needs. A Systematic, Personalized Learning Progression for Every Student

  The System 44 Library includes 56 high-interest, age- appropriate titles available in three formats: as Paperbacks, Audiobooks, and eBooks. Each leveled title targets decoding skills and strategies to promote comprehension, while building vocabulary and content-area knowledge. Student Library

  Blended Learning provides a simple and clear organization for instruction and classroom engagement, and gets ALL students reading, writing, talking, and thinking critically every day. Small Group Instruction

 Reading practice at home is essential for student success. Therefore, students will be assigned 30 minutes of independent reading + log entry daily. Reading logs will be checked daily and turned in weekly. After an absence, logs may be turned in within one week. If a student was not absent but fails to turn in an assignment, he or she may turn it in late within one week at a penalty of 5% per day. Students are also expected to bring their Chromebooks daily, fully charged and ready for use. Homework assignments may vary. Homework
