Back to School

Common Core Standards Informational Text Common Core Standards have been adopted. We now have specific standards that address reading informational text. One of our objectives is for students to read their Science and Social Studies lessons independently and provide evidence from the text when making inferences. You can assist us by asking your child what he/she learned during the week and have them show you where they can find that information in their book.

Science Themes

The First Americans Age of Exploration Life in the Colonies Social Studies Topics The First Americans Age of Exploration Life in the Colonies The Road to Revolution Forming a New Nation

Math 5NBT.B7 Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to hundredths, using concrete models or drawing and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/ or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning. We will use My Math and additional materials to ensure that students can explain their reasoning behind math operations. You can help us by ensuring that your child knows their time tables so they can perform higher math with ease. Their text book can be taken home so you can see what they are learning and help them review any concepts needed. You may also ask them how they solved their math problems.

Math Operations and Algebraic Thinking Geometry and Fractions Measurement, Numerical Relationships, and Data Analysis Algebraic Reasoning and Equivalence

Language Arts College and Career Readiness Anchor Standards for Reading CCRA.R.3 determine central ideas or themes of a text and analyze their development; summarize the key supporting details and ideas. Our goal is for students to be able to understand and discuss what the author is trying to communicate and provide evidence that supports their statements. You can help your child by making sure he/she can read with fluency, fast and accurate enough to understand what he/she is reading. If they are not, have them read same paragraph several times. In addition, make sure they read 30 min. daily! You can also ask them to talk to you about the literature they are reading. If they tell you, for example, that the main character is smart, ask them to provide evidence.
