1 Florida Standards Assessment Parent Night 3 RD GRADE

2 What is the Florida Standards Assessment?  A test that was designed to serve Florida students by measuring education gains and progress.  Measures student performance based on the Florida State Standards.  Information from the assessment is used to drive student instruction.

3 How will the FSA affect my child? 4 th Grade Promotion Administered on March 29-March 30 th All 3rd Grade Students will take the ELA FSA Must receive a Level 2 (or higher to pass) ELA FSA Administered during the 2 nd semester All 3 rd grade students will complete portfolio Student must demonstrate mastery of each benchmark 3 rd Grade Reading Student Portfolio Administered during May 2016 Participants: Students scoring a Level 1 on the ELA FSA and that did not pass Grade 3 Reading Portfolio Alternative Standardized Reading Assessment (ASRA) Administered during summer 2016. Participants: students scoring a Level 1 on the ELA FSA and did not pass the Grade 3 Reading Portfolio or ASRA Alternative Assessment for Grade 3 Promotion

English Language Arts and Listening 2 Test Days March 29-March 30 2 Test Sessions80 minutes each session Session 1: 28 items Session 2: 31 items Mathematics 2 Test Days March 31-April 1 2 Test Sessions80 minutes each session Session 1: 32 items Session 2: 31 items

8 What does the FSA look like?? *FSA Practice Assignments have been given out on a weekly basis, throughout the last quarter, these assignments mimic the test and format.

9 What are we doing to help your child? i-ReadyDifferentiated Instruction Modeling and sharing activities to practice the skills and question types on the test. Debriefing Cold Reads/ Portfolios

10 What can I do at home? Use Technology. Read together EVERY night. Use FSA Task Cards. Ask you child questions. Make sure your child is using TEXT EVIDENCE. Review multiplication and division tables. Review your child’s homework. http://fsassessments.org/ Use this website to read about updates, and have your child complete the training tests in both Reading and Math.

11 Before the FSA… The night before the FSA: Make sure your child gets enough sleep. The morning of the FSA: Eat a normal breakfast. Talk your child. Arrive at school early.
