2. 4th Grade is Awesome!
I look forward to working with you and your student.
It will be an exciting year! Fourth grade is a time of change and new responsibilities.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
I want to work with you as a team to ensure a positive 4th grade experience.

3. Behavioral Norms for 4th Graders
I will treat you with respect so you will know how to treat me.
If you cause a problem, I will ask you to solve it.
If you can’t solve the problem, or choose not to, I will do something.
What I do will depend on the special person, and the special situation.
If you feel something is unfair, whisper to me, “I am not sure that is fair” and we will talk.

4. Priority Skills
Priority Skills are skills are concepts that your child needs to be able to do by the end of 4th grade.
The mastery of these skills will help your child do well on tests and be prepared for the concepts at the next grade level.
If your child can do these skills earlier than the end of the year, then this is wonderful!
Parents can help at home through on-going discussions of skills and check his/her progress throughout the year.

5. 4th Grade Priority Skills
Math
Reading
Multiply 40 basic facts in 2 minutes; Divide 35 basic facts in 2 minutes.
Science
Define and apply grade level science vocabulary for each unit with 85% or greater mastery.
Read a 4th grade passage at 115 words per minute
Writing
Write a 5 paragraph essay with main idea and conclusion.
Each well-written paragraph will include a topic sentence, 3 detail sentences, and a concluding sentence.
