Coach Thomas Civics American History PRIDE IS POWER Coach Thomas Civics American History

Your child needs to be getting 6-8 hours of sleep per night. They cannot learn, function, or grow with less. Having less will not allow your child to perform up to their best.

Objective The student will be able to identify the principles that influenced and motivated the Founding Fathers to create a constitutional republic and how citizens can participate responsibly and effectively in American civic and political life. The student will also be able to explain the relationships between the United States and other nations. The student will be required to do presentations by PowerPoints, daily assignments, and group work. .

Objective The student will be able to read maps, identify places on a map, identify the different events that have occurred and place the events in proper order. The student will also be able to explain how these different events have affected the growth and prosperity here in the history of the United States. The student will be required to do presentations by powerpoints, class participation, and a video. There will be a film festival one per semester.

Procedures The student will come in the class and sharpen pencil prior to the bell ringing. Don’t wait for the bell to ring because the bell does not start the class the teacher does. The student will begin work on the bell ringer. The bell ringer will be located on the board. The student will have 5 minutes to do so. The bell ringer will be checked. Occasionally, the bell ringer will be taken up for a pop quiz. The teacher will then begin the daily lesson. Class is over when the teacher releases you, not when the bell rings.

Tardies/Bathroom You will be allowed 2 tardies per 9 weeks. Once the student exceeds their limit they will be given an after school detention. The student will not be allow to leave class to use the restroom.

Materials Pencil or pen (blue or black ink only) Paper Binder (no spiral notebook) You will need to have a flash drive Anything else that will be needed, the teacher will tell you within a week ahead of time.

Grading Scale 85 – 92 = B 75 – 84 = C 67 – 74 = D 66 – below = F

Evaluation will be based on quizzes, tests, projects, oral and written assignments, map work, and class discussions. All chapters are required reading. Evaluation grades break down into 80% tests and quizzes, class/homework, engagement analysis, and 20% exam. All work is due on the assigned day, no excuses!

Classroom Rules Be respectful of others and their property. Be prompt and go quietly to your seat, ready to work when the bell rings. Bring all materials to class. If the student is absent, they are required to make up the work within 3 days of returning back to class. The teacher is not required to tell the student and to constantly remind the student that he/she has work that needs to be made up.

Consequences - Warning - Student teacher conference - 30/60 after school detention - Parent/teacher conference - Write up * Refusal to do any of the above will be an automatic write up.
