COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS Should be in the midst of it RIGHT NOW. Thanksgiving—around the time you should be completing the process. Winter break you should be done! Be aware of APPLICATION DEADLINES. Do not go overboard and apply to 17. colleges—you can only attend ONE! Visit colleges your student is applying to.

SAT OR ACT? Meet with your counselor to discuss which test is best for you. DECEMBER is most likely the last time for seniors to take the SAT or ACT (college application deadlines).

HOW DO MY SAT SCORES GET SENT TO THE COLLEGES I AM APPLYING TO? They have to be directly sent to the colleges from College Board. The website is http://sat.collegeboard.org/scores. There is a fee to send scores to each school.

WHAT IS NAVIANCE/FAMILY CONNECTION? Naviance/Family Connection is a fully integrated program designed to help raise student accountability and performance across a number of key indicators leading to increased engagement, improvements in academic performance and overall workplace and college readiness.

WHAT WILL SENIORS BE DOING IN NAVIANCE/FAMILY CONNECTION? Adding colleges to their Naviance Account. Requesting transcripts Filling out teacher and school counselor ‘surveys.’ Requesting teacher recommendations. Searching for scholarship opportunities.

ADDING COLLEGES TO NAVIANCE/FAMILY CONNECTION

Click on the colleges tab

Click on colleges I’m applying to

Click Add To This List

You must bring in your Release of Records Form. Click Add Colleges.

HOW ARE TRANSCRIPTS PROCESSED?

Click Request Transcripts

Be sure to click Request Transcripts!!

You will get a green confirmation box stating that your transcript requests have been submitted.

WHAT IS A TEACHER AND COUNSELOR SURVEY?

The counselor and teacher recommendation requests are found under ‘surveys to take.’

There are a total of 12 questions on this form There are a total of 12 questions on this form. The more info you give, the better recommendation we can write! Click on the about me tab to return to the front page again.

Ask your teacher IN PERSON first!!!!! This form has six questions—be specific so your teacher can write you a great rec! Remember, counselors and teachers cannot write you a letter of recommendation until you fill out these forms.

Click on add/cancel requests.

You must write a note! It is NOT optional! Be careful about how many teachers you ask to write a recommendation for you-the Common App and many other schools only want a maximum of two. Since things are electronic now, if more than two teachers submit a rec letter for you electronically, only the first two will be accepted. Click on arrow.

You will get a green confirmation box stating that your requests have been updated.

There are no counselor recommendation requests on Naviance/Family Connection because your counselor will automatically send a letter of recommendation out based on the schools in your student’s ‘Colleges I’m Applying To’ list. Your student should Only put the schools he/she is definitely applying to on this list.
