What Should I Be Doing Now?! Attend college fairs, continue the college search process online, visit colleges Update Resume in Naviance/Family Connection Request letters of recommendation Work on college essay Register for SAT/ACT (if necessary) Complete NCAA eligibility (if applicable) Discuss Early Action / Early Decision options Prepare a well researched list of schools to begin the application process…

4 The Process Of Applying
Sign on to Naviance/Family Connection Account connection.naviance.com/centereach Submit Release of Records Request Letters Of Recommendation In person & Via Naviance (Tutorial Video = Complete college essay Work with English teachers for grammar/format review Have SAT/ACT Scores Sent To Colleges Work on & Submit Applications Online or “Pink Sheets” (Application Tracking Form) 1 per college applying to, submitted to counselor in order for documentation to be sent

5 Applying Via The Common App
Register for the Common Application ( To Begin, Everyone MUST: complete the EDUCATION section Add at least one college to the MY COLLEGES section Sign the FERPA waiver How to Match Your Child’s Naviance Account with The Common Application:

6 FERPA explained The typical expectation for letters of recommendation in college admissions is that they are kept confidential. Admissions officers give most weight to letters that provide an honest and qualified assessment of the applicant. If you don't waive your FERPA right, you could accidentally signal to admissions officers that you don't trust your recommender or that the recommendation is less candid or genuine.

7 *College Rep Visits and On-Site Admissions at Centereach High School*
Please refer to your child’s Naviance/Family Connection account to view upcoming visits and on-site admissions opportunities from various colleges Click on “Colleges” and “Upcoming College Visits” to view the dates and times All sign-ups for these opportunities will be in the West Suite; where the appointments & visits will also take place.

8 * SAT / ACT * Be aware of upcoming deadlines & new procedures
Register early! (No walk-ins accepted anymore!) Photo I.D. is required upon registering Students must send SAT/ACT scores to each college directly through the testing website:

9 *Financial Aid & Scholarships*
FAFSA form should be filled out online after October 1, 2017 FAFSA Overview and FAFSA 4CASTER View the “Scholarship”’ tab on the guidance webpage National Scholarships are posted under the “Colleges” tab in Naviance/Family Connection Local scholarship information given to seniors in February

Consistently updated with pertinent information “Senior Stuff & College Info” tab will include updates regarding college fairs, on-site admissions, rep visits, etc. Links to many helpful websites (Naviance, SAT/ACT, Scholarships, Financial Aid, NCAA…)

11 * Student Checklist * Do Your Research! Complete Resume
Request teacher recommendations Complete NCAA eligibility (if applicable) Send SAT/ACT scores Submit applications Fill out and sign a “pink form” for each school & submit to your counselor!
