1 Fort Lee High School Introduction to Naviance Family Connection

2 What is Family Connection? An online resource that supports college planning and applications. Each account is customized to FLHS students. Students can search colleges worldwide and find a link to the college’s website. Linked with Naviance Succeed, a service that your college counselors will use to keep academic records and submit school paperwork to college admission offices.

3 How Do I Start? Family Connection is on the following website: http://connection.naviance.com/fortlee A registration code is needed to set up an account on Naviance Family Connect. Please see your counselor for your registration code.

4 Click here to register for the first time. Please see your school counselor for your registration code! Welcome, Charlie Brown! Your counselor has created an account for you on Family Connection, a website to help you plan for your future. Sign on today and enter your registration code to set up your account. Your registration code is: XXXXX.

5 Click here to start.

6 Highly Suggested: Change your email to one you use regularly. Highly Suggested: Here you can change your password to one you will remember.

7 Very Important: Please check that all the info on this page is correct. Click “Edit” to add and/or correct any information. Make sure your email and cell phone are updated so we can send you college updates regarding visits, admission dates, etc.

8 Next c lick the link under “Survey to Take” and complete your Pre- College Planning Survey. This must be completed by June of your junior year.

9 Click “Resume” to create a resume that you can use for college. Please be sure to complete the “Extra Curricular Activities” section of your resume.

10 To complete your extracurricular activities, open the drop-down menu and select extracurricular activities. Include all activities in your resume and indicate the year(s). Also you can include summer and non-school related activities such as community service.

12 Click here to add the names of colleges you are considering.

13 Colleges I Am Thinking About Add names of colleges you are interested in, maybe your parents went to, you’ve visited, etc. The “Lookup” feature allows you to find colleges by name, state or country (i.e. Canada, UK, etc.) You can also link directly to their website.

14 Search by Name, State or Country When you click on “Lookup” this box will pop up. The “College Picker” is a list of colleges our students apply to regularly. If you can’t find the one you want: 1.Write in the name 2.Or select a U.S. state 3.Or choose a country from the drop down box When you have done one of the above, click “Go” for a list of colleges

15 College Maps Allows you to see maps of: Where FLHS students were accepted 20 most popular colleges Where FLHS students are currently attending college

16 College Search This feature allows you to search college by different criteria: –Location –Major –Size –Sports –Private or Public

17 Acceptance History This feature shows you how many students from FLHS were accepted and are currently enrolled. It also links you to the college’s website and provides more college admissions information. Click to go to college website

18 Colleges I Am Applying To Once you know where you are applying, you can move the colleges from “Colleges That I Am Thinking About” to “College I’m Applying To.” Here you can see if the college takes the Common Application, check deadlines, and request that high school school transcript and recommendations be sent to colleges. You can also update the Guidance Office on decisions and how interested you are.

19 In the fall of your senior year, we will post the dates and times of colleges visiting FLHS. You can meet with the admissions counselors and ask questions.

20 Scholarships View scholarships recommended by the School Counseling Office Search a wider online database for scholarships.

21 Please remember to … 1.Update your personal information especially email address and cell phone number. 2.Complete the Pre-College Survey 3.Complete the Extracurricular Activities section of the resume 4.Enter the names of any colleges that you have visited, are considering, and/or have researched in “Colleges I am Thinking About.” Any Questions?
