The Great Construction Collaboration Unit Portfolio Presentation S2M2 Schill, Simpson, McNew, & McNew

Unit Summary Students will create a design for a custom house plan addressing mathematic, economic and language arts concepts. Final presentation will include a house design and measurements, supply list according to given budget, realtor proposal and multimedia presentation.

Curriculum-Framing Questions Essential Question How do math, english, and economics work together? Unit Questions How can math help me understand the world around me? How can descriptive writing serve a purpose in the real world? How can geometric concepts relate to economic principles? Content Questions What is area? How do you find area? What is supply and demand? What are square units? How is cost related to square units? How would supply and demand affect the choices of a contractor? What are some descriptive words that would help a realtor sell a house? How do you create a presentation to a client to make the sale?

Construction Collaboration Project This project will help my students develop 21st century skills by: Understanding the interconnections among a variety of systems Articulating thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively through speaking and writing Leveraging the collective intelligence of groups when appropriate Setting and meeting high standards and goals for delivering quality work on time

Gauging Student Needs Assessment Purpose of the Assessment To gather information about what students already know and what they wonder about the home construction process as it applies to math, english and economics in the real world. What I want to learn from my students? I want to find out what they already know about math, english and economics in the real world How I have tried to promote higher-order thinking? I ask students to find relationships and draw conclusions about the construction process. How the assessment information helps me and my students plan for upcoming activities in the unit? This assessment will focus our unit and organize student thought process. Assessment will be revisited to add to earlier knowledge.

My Goals for the Course To allow students to make real world application and connections for the combined use of mathematics, writing and economics principles.
