Vectors Unit Portfolio Presentation Hanadi Fateyerji

Unit Summary What is a vector? Students will practice the actions of pulling, pushing and deforming to demonstrate the scientific significance of vectors. How to represent vectors? Students will draw using rulers the experimented forces and vectors. How to draw a group of vectors acting on the same object? The students draw the vectors graphically and add them graphically and mathematically.

Applying 2 pulling forces

A pulling force is a vector acting along the line of motion

Pushing a Wooden Box is force vector

Adding two vectors in the same direction

Adding two vectors graphically Chapter

Resolving a vector into 2 components Image Bank Chapter 5

Problem Solving Strategies

Curriculum-Framing Questions Essential Question Why do we need a map? What is its importance for a tourist? Unit Questions What is the significance of a vector in all life situations and in physics mechanic based problems? Content Questions How to draw a vector? How to add two vectors graphically? How to resolve a vector to its 2 components? How to add two vectors algebraically? How to apply vector concepts on different physics terms like velocity, acceleration, torque. Force of gravity, force of friction, force of normal,

Vector Project This project will help my students develop 21 st century skills by: Collaborating with peers. Analyzing data about vectors and drawing conclusions to answer Unit Questions Solving problems and making decisions about their experiment. Communicating with others in a newsletter.

Gauging Student Needs Assessment Purpose of the Assessment To gather information about what students already know and what they wonder about VECTORS. What I want to learn from my students? I want to find out what they already know about the Unit Questions and what they know about setting up experiments. How I have tried to promote higher-order thinking? I ask students to find relationships and draw conclusions about the usage of maps the importance of vectors in our daily life for the purpose of finding locations and directions. How the assessment information helps me and my students plan for upcoming activities in the unit? If students have misconceptions about how to draw or add vectors, I can provide scaffolds. If students have different levels of understanding about the importance of vectors, I can provide various resources. We will revisit this assessment throughout the unit for students to add their knowledge. What feedback or additional ideas I’d like? I would like to assess the students learning by asking them to sketch a demo experiment of a car being push by air thrust from a balloon.

Find ways to get my students more interested in learning science Learn about different kinds of technology my students and I can use Share ideas with other teachers My Goals for the Course

Goals for My Students To learn how scientists collect and think about data To become more independent learners

Request for Feedback Places I could find a classroom in a different climate for my students to work with Ideas for helping students take more responsibility for their own learning
