1 Generation Bridge Unit Presentation Alison M. Kessler

2 Unit Summary Students will learn about their own personal history by researching their grandparents’ and parents’ generations by conducting interviews. In the process of researching different generations and their own personal history, students will create a family tree. Students will create a multi-media product to present family tree, interviews, and generation research. The multi-media product should include family pictures (if possible) and music. To conclude the unit, students will write a narrative about their family’s lineage.

4 Project Approaches As my students work on this project, they will….. write interview questions to research grandparent’s and parent’s generations compare and contrast grandparent’s and parent’s generations to their own generation research family lineage and will create family tree to illustrate lineage create multi-media product to present research findings, family tree, and family photographs write narrative essay about their family lineage and what they learned from other generations

6 Gauging Students Needs Assessments What is the purpose of the assessment? I will use a Think-Pair-Share Goggle document to assess what students already know about sentence construction. What do I want to learn from my students? I want to learn how well my students can put their thoughts and ideas into sentence formation. How have I tried to incorporate higher-order thinking? Students will compare and contrast their generation to other generations such as those of their grandparents and parents. Students will research other generations to help in their comparison. How will the assessment information help me and my students plan for upcoming activities? This assessment will help me to identify areas of weakness for students in regards to sentence construction. The assessment will help students prepare for the research involved in the project.
