2. Unit Summary Students will look at Spanish colonization and analyze major occurrences in history. They will look at what impact has been made on the rest of the world. Students will also reflect on how their nation has been influenced by the Latino community and create a presentation to show what kind of positive and/or negative effects have developed as a result.

3. Curriculum Framing Questions Essential Question: How do people come together? Unit Question: What is diversity? Content Question: What is the name of the first permanent Spanish settlement in the United States?

Goals for this Unit For students to have a better understanding of the history of Spanish colonization For students to be able to communicate their thoughts on history with each other in a meaningful way For students to reflect on Spanish history and make connections between that and events that take place today

5. Gauging Student Needs Assessments Purpose of the Assessment To find out what students already know about Spanish colonization and any questions they might have about it. How I have tried to promote higher-order thinking? I ask students to make connections between the history of Spanish colonization and what our society looks like today. How does the assessment information help me and my students plan for upcoming activities in the unit? If students have misconceptions about Spanish history, we can use various resources to find answers to questions. We will revisit this assessment throughout the unit for students to add their knowledge.

6. Feedback I need help finding ways to present information to students while keeping them engaged. I want to incorporate some kind of timeline but don’t know what the best way would be to bring this information to students.
