Purpose of the Assessment
To gather information about what students already know about solving story problems.
What I want to learn from my students?
I want to find out what they already know about the Unit Questions and what strategies they have learned/employed.
How I have tried to promote higher-order thinking?
I ask students to analyze data, use divergent thinking in considering possible solutions, convergent thinking in choosing the best strategies and logic in assessing the final solution.
How the assessment information helps me and my students plan for upcoming activities in the unit?
If students have misconceptions about how to solve story problems, I can provide a structure for dealing with future problems. If students have different levels of understanding about solving story problems, I can provide various strategies. We will revisit this data throughout the unit for students to increase their knowledge.
What feedback or additional ideas I’d like?
I would like help on my assessment. I think I need to elicit more higher-order thinking, but I’m not sure how.

Find ways to get my students more interested in and comfortable with story/real-life problems.
Learn about different kinds of technology my students and I can use in dealing with story problems.
Collaborate with other teachers about solving story problems.

To learn how to interpret, set-up, solve and evaluate the solutions to story problems.
To help them feel more comfortable and confident in their ability to solve multistep problems.
To become more independent learners capable of working with others to solve real-life problems.
