Victorian London: Homework 1 (Team Project) Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate

Victorian London: Homework 1 (Team Project) Copy Victorian London: Homework 1 (Team Project) Victorian London has been the setting of a lot of stories, including video games, fiction, movies, TV shows and comic books. Working in groups of maximum 3, you will produce a poster with explanatory text for multiple sections. Pictures can be found online, drawn, or designed as you wish, but all writing must be written by one of the members of your team. Trust me, I will know. Your poster must include 5 categories from column A (your choice), and all from column B. Each category should have at least one picture and at least 50 words. Deadline: March 6th/7th in my office or in class. I will collect them, grade them, then ask you to display them in the classroom during the following week. DON’T COPY: The columns will follow on the next page.

Victorian London: Homework 1 (Team Project) Copy Victorian London: Homework 1 (Team Project) Column A (do 5 of these) Column B (do ALL of these) Architecture Biggest Surprise of Your Research Literature Favourite Piece of Media Set or Produced in the Victorian Era Social Structure (classes, poverty, etc.) Why is the Victorian era so important in British and European History? Technology What scared Victorians about evolution? Include a definition of “devolution.” Politics Famous People Contemporary Entertainment Famous News Stories (Jack the Ripper, Spring Heeled Jack, the Death of Prince Albert) What Was Happening in Mexico at the same time? Other Interesting Facts Note: Deep research or understanding, teaching me something new, or impressive analysis can all lead to bonus stamps for your notebook grade.

Copy Homework 1 Checklist Work in teams with no more than 3 people. Write a minimum of 9 paragraphs of 50 words (5 A categories and the 4 B categories). Have at least 1 drawing, picture, or photo for each category. Put them all together on a large piece of card or paper. Deliver all of these to Andrew in his office or class no later than the 7th of March. FAQ: “Teacher, can we have class time to work on the homework?” Answer: “Yes, once we’ve finished the chapter questions for the week.”

Chapter 2: Search for Mr. Hyde Again, we will listen to chapter 2 together if we can maintain quiet. If not, it will become a reading homework activity. Don’t Copy

Chapter 2: Search for Mr. Hyde Copy (1 stamp) and answer before listening/reading (1 stamp): “Will” is used in Jekyll and Hyde as in a person’s “last will and testament.” This is a legal document describing what should happen to that person’s property when they die. Before Question: Why do you think Jekyll’s will makes Utterson uncomfortable and suspicious? Answer in one sentence.

Chapter 2: Search for Mr. Hyde Copy (1) and answer (1) while listening. Why does Utterson go to see Dr. Lanyon? Describe Dr. Lanyon. Why did Lanyon stop seeing Jekyll very much? (“balderdash” is an old-fashioned English word meaning nonsense or ridiculous things.) How long ago? Utterson describes Hyde as Jekyll’s “protégé”. What does that mean? What does Lanyon know about Hyde? How was Utterson feeling that night? What did he do in the following days to answer his questions about Hyde and Jekyll? How did Utterson feel about Mr. Hyde after they met? What was Jekyll like when he was young, according to Utterson? What about the relationship between Jekyll and Hyde makes Utterson afraid for Jekyll?

Chapter 2: Search for Mr. Hyde Copy (1) and answer after listening/reading(1). What do you think will happen next? Minimum 1 sentence1 What do you think Utterson should have done differently? Minimum 1 sentence. Monster Task (1): Use and identify (0, 1st, 2nd, 3rd) conditionals in your answers.
