Beginning of Class Procedures: DO NOT BRING YOUR BACKPACK UNTIL YOU GET YOUR LOCKER. You’ll get a locker next week of school, IF I have informed you I have received all of your paperwork. Go get your breakfast NOW. Do not wait. Breakfast is over at 9:15. First period will begin immediately after announcements. If you are not eating, you must read something of your choice. Help yourself to the books on the bookshelf. HOMEROOM = SILENCE

DO NOT WRITE ON THIS PRE-QUIZ. Write all of your answers on a sheet of notebook paper. Once you finish, put your answers in an iRespond remote. If you finish early, read silently and/or preview your SpringBoard.

SpringBoard Introduction Review the academic vocabulary and literary terms on page 94. Write each word (there are 19 total in the two boxes) on a post it and place it on: Q = words you have questions about H = words you’ve heard of, but don’t fully understand T = words you know so well, you could teach

Unpacking Embedded Assessment 1 (Unit 2) Turn to page Read the assignment options in the blue box. There are 4 options. Then, turn to page 132 and read all items in the EXEMPLARY boxes. Circle the nouns (noun = person, place or thing) Underline the verbs (verbs = action words)

Sentence Strips Rewrite your group’s assigned bullet point IN YOUR OWN WORDS. Hint: Replace the verbs. You can use the dictionary or thesaurus if you do not know what the words mean. Once you have your assigned bullet point rewritten, raise your hand to have it checked. Then, you will write it on a sentence strip.

We will section our E.L.T. notebooks into these 3 sections using Post-Its: Reading (pages 1-26) (Red Post-It) Includes: Read to Self Read to Someone Listen to Reading Writing (pages 27-50) (Chartreuse Post-It) Word Work (pages 51-end) (Purple Post-It)

11 Reading Language Arts – E.L.T. 08/16/19 Read a book of your choice.
When you finish the book, see me to complete your book recommendation form. You must read at least 3 books this nine weeks and complete the corresponding book recommendation. You will have time in class to read, but you could also read on your own, too. You may certainly read more to earn more points!

12 Writing (Must Complete 3 Per Week)
Language Arts – E.L.T. 08/16/19 Writing (Must Complete 3 Per Week) Choose one of the following topics and write at least one paragraph (5 complete sentences) about it. If you could go back in time to witness any event in history, what would it be?  Why? What would you do? If you could invent something, what would it be? How would you create it? If you met a genie, what would your three wishes be? Why? If you had a super power, what would it be? What would you use it to do? Why? Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years? What is your plan to reach those goals? Free write about a topic of your choice.
