1 REMEMBER to ask for help if you do not understand it. It is OK not to know what everything means, but there is always someone to help! READING Remember to read for a minimum one hour each week. Each time you read, record the book, time, pages in your diary. Don’t forget to have your parents sign your diary. English Choose 2 activities that will support you with your learning and will challenge you! In the News Thinking, Viewing, Responding Select a story from the BTN website (www.abc.net.au/btn). After watching the story, record five key facts about the story. Then, create a quiz of five questions that someone else could complete after watching the story. Remember that your questions should link to the story and be able to be answered from the story. Spelling / Vocabulary (Must Do) Writing, Spelling, Vocabulary, Grammar You have eight weekly spelling/vocabulary words to practise. Complete two activities from the list in the back of your book to practise your spelling words. You will be tested on your words. Go Beyond: Practise your words in some small way every day. Practise makes perfect! Information Report Writing/Review Write a report on your favourite television program. Remember to include an introduction on what the program is about and at least 3 paragraphs explaining a few of the following things; Characters Problems/Issues Plot Setting Predictions for future programs. Averages (Measurement, Data, Averages, Division) For the football games over the weekend, collect the score that each team made. Work out the range, mean, median and mode footy scores for the league. Calculator Practice Four Operations, Strategy Use only these keys on your calculator. Make each of these numbers. Press as few keys as possible. MAKE: 16, 37, 88, 638 Record how you did it. I am 9961 days old today! Going Beyond: How old would you be at the end of the decade (Dec 31, 2019)? Integrated Studies activities that will support you with your learning and will challenge you! Imagine the Future Design and Creativity, Technology, Thinking This term we are exploring different science discoveries and inventions, and their impact on the world. Your task is to put on your green creativity hat and think about the future. What will the world be like in 2053? What inventions will exist? What won’t exist any more? You could answer this task by drawing and labelling a picture, create an animation on the computer, building a LEGO model or writing a story. Think about the amount of effort you put into this task to ensure it is your best work. Buddying Scientist (Science) Find a science experiment that you can conduct at home. Put a copy of this experiment in your book and record your findings. What is something new you have learnt from conducting this experiment? Extension: Use a digital camera and record yourself conducting the experiment, or bring it in to share with us. Science in Our World (Reading, Writing, Science, Summarising) Find a newspaper article to do with science (remember, science really is everywhere!). Highlight the key points of the article and then write a summary about the article. Write down THREE self questions you will ask yourself to help you to challenge yourself with this task. OPTIONAL ACTIVITIESTIP FOR THE WEEK! Set the timer for yourself – you do not need to slave away for hours!. Each task should reflect 15 minutes of your work, plus your one hour reading each week (that’ equals about two hours for the whole week) Grade 5 Homework For your homework, you need to complete two tasks from each row of the grid- English, Maths and Integrated. It is also important that you read every week. Optional tasks are just that...optional! If you have any problems with this homework, please come and see me as soon as possible to get support.
