Community Event EDU620: Meeting Individual Student Needs With Technology Mia Pierre 6/15/2015

Welcome! Welcome one and all. Thank you all for attending our community event on educational technology and how it will benefit our schools in the district. The presentation today will be brought forth to bring information that will give more insight on what is involved in educational technology and how it works within the classrooms.

Universal Design for Learning As an educator for pre-kindergarten students, I have come across various students who need special attention when it comes to classwork and homework. We have found that technology has broaden the aspect of taking creativity and innovation to a different level for students.

Interaction Question: Parents, do any of you have children who find it hard to pay attention while doing homework or studying? Example during presentation: Here’s a student who is working diligently on math problems on a tablet that goes along with a worksheet. The activities on the tablet offers various ways to solve these problems, making it both fun and educational for the student.

Demonstration PdvYRI PdvYRI This video shows exactly what will be implemented in the classrooms throughout the district if the vote is proposed in our favor. Think about what will best benefit students and how much more learning they will partake in with the inclusion of technology in the classrooms.

Impact on Teaching and Learning When it comes to UDL, educators are able to tailor everything from assessments to lesson plans to make sure each child is getting the most from the current lesson at hand. Students are learning in a variety of ways, using a variety of methods through technology that can be used at their discretion.

Mission, Belief, and Goals Our mission is to not only develop creative and innovative minds, but also helping students tap into their true potential and getting them to think outside the box. Our schools foster individuality, valuing a child’s creativity and the need to succeed. Our belief is that if a child is challenged through a creative environment, their intellect shines through even more. We also value our parents, teachers, and active community members who are involved in the learning of our students. We pride ourselves on taking into consideration different learning styles and students as individuals and as a whole, allowing us to guide them through differentiated learning, which one method could soon be the use of technology.

Courses 1. Mathematics (pre-k-12 th ) 2. English (pre-k-12 th ) 3. Reading (pre-k-12 th ) 4. Science (pre-k-12 th ) 5. Social Studies (pre-k-12 th ) 6. Physical Education (pre-k-12 th ) 7. Career Exploration (9 th -12 th ) 8. Computer Science (5 th -12 th )

Technology and 21 st Century Skills Critical thinking and problem solving skills Collaboration with peers ICT Creativity and innovation

Tools and Interaction An example of a tool that is used in many of our courses are IPads/tablets. Interaction: divide into groups to use an example. Give math problems and have them use tablets to work out the problem using an application that aids students in working out problems.

New Technology The educational materials we used now offers limited assistance, but if we were to upgrade, the wonders it will do for our students, the learning environment, and overall the building of great critical thinkers and problem solvers.
