Health is…  The combination of your physical, mental/emotional, social and spiritual well being.  Your personal level of health affects everything about you: Looks, feelings, attitude, performance, and reaction.

Your Health Triangle  Your 3 elements of health are interconnected like the sides of a triangle.  When 1 side receives too much or too little, the others change & become unbalanced.

The Need to Balance Your Triangle  To be truly healthy, you need to try to keep all 3 sides of your health triangle – and your life- in balance.  A person with a balanced life is said to have achieved wellness.

Wellness is…  The balance of health – an overall state of well being.

 Left Side: - People of this side of the continuum usually do not take responsibility for maintaining their own health  Right Side: - Usually exhibit responsibility, discipline & positive direction in life. Accept responsibility for their maintain their own health

Promoting Your Health  Your decision making skills and personal behavior are directly related to your health or lack of.

Lifestyle Factors  These are personal behaviors and habits related to the way a person lives, that help determine his or her level of health.

Wellness & Prevention A key to your health and wellness is prevention. Prevention – Practicing healthy habits to keep a person well and free from disease and other ailments. Examples: seat belts, sunscreen, protective gear in sports

Health Education…  the providing of accurate health information in such ways as to influence people to change attitudes so that they take positive action about their health.  Health Ed. Is not just learning the facts, its being able to apply the knowledge & make good decisions.
