3  Taking care of your body –Well balanced diet –Regular exercise –Get 8 hours of sleep –Avoid tobacco, alcohol, drugs

4  Taking care of your mind -Positive attitude -Recognize weakness -Accept responsibility for your actions

5  Taking care of the ways which you get along with others -Communicate effectively -Respect and care for others -Learn to resolve conflicts effectively

6  The health triangle is keeping all above aspects in balance  When you have achieved balance you have achieved wellness  An overall state of well being or health

7  Health education is providing accurate information in such a way as to influence people to change attitudes so that they take a positive action about their health.  You must have all the information in order to make a healthy decision

8  What influences your health?  Let’s make a list!

9  Heredity is the passing of traits from biological parents to children to include:  Skin, eyes, and hair color  Body build  Growth patterns  Tendency to get different diseases  * you can’t choose or avoid them*

10  Environment is all of the living and non-living things around us to include:  Houses and schools  Air you breath  Water you drink

11  Social Environment is family and others that you come into daily contact with  Peers are people that are the same age as you are and share similar range of interest  Cultural Environment is the collective beliefs, customs, and behaviors of a group

13  Personalities are like fingerprints! They are all different!  Everyone is different because of your friends, attitude, cultural background, values, and physical environment  Personality is a special mix of traits, feelings, attitudes, and habits  You develop personality by heredity, environment, and behavior

14  How do you see yourself?  Self concept is how you see yourself  Includes:  Perception  Ideas  Attitudes  **This is the most important influence on what you do and how you do it!

15  Self esteem is the confidence and worth that you need to feel about yourself  Examine messages you send yourself  Focus on things that you do well High Self-Esteem People feel very good about themselves Low Self- Esteem People don’t feel good about themselves

16  To improve your self esteem focus on things you do well  send yourself good messages  set realistic goals  ask for help when you need it  learn from your mistakes
