Why Personal Opinion Why was this revolution justified The revolution that begins to shift power from a monarchy to Parliament (political authority to tax & make laws, religion, king’s extravagant spending) Charles I breaks a deal with Parliament, in which he promised Parliament more rights and freedoms for them and all Englishmen in return for new tax monies. Parliament’s military forces (the Roundheads) defeat the king’s forces (the Cavaliers); the king is tried for treason and executed. Oliver Cromwell eventually becomes the autocratic ruler of England. (“Lord Protector”) Oliver Cromwell- leader of Parliament’s New Model Army and becomes autocratic ruler Charles I- divine right monarch; executed Parliament- representative legislature that wants more rights for Englishmen and the power to make laws and taxes Parliament is a representative body that wanted more of a voice in governing England (making laws and taxes) which is fair and worth the fight, esp. if you agree with John Locke as I do.
