Guidelines to a safe and SUCCESSFUL year

There will be an assignment to work on before beginning the day’s lessons. Bell Work

# 1 How do I enter the class? 1.Student enters the class QUIETLY & CALMLY & MUST GREET the teacher “Good Morning Mrs. Rivera!”- MANNERS are a HUGE deal to me. 2. QUICKLY & QUIETLY sit down, put your belongings away, and get your supplies ready to work. 3. Begin to COPY your HOMEWORK RIGHT AWAY from the “Home Learning” section of the board into your agenda. MUST 4. MORNING BELL WORK will be on the board/Promethean PLEASE get started right away. If it’s a WS, once your finished you MUST turn it in the BELL WORK basket. 5. Any homework, classwork, flyers etc. you will need for the day or to take home, will be passed out by the Class Manager.

#2 Preparation Bring ALL supplies to class every day. You have to be SMART about what to carry! DON’T leave things in your desk because we are switching classes.

#3 Agenda Agendas MUST be brought to school EVERY day. I will initial your agenda daily to make sure H.W. has been completely copied. Your parents& I WILL COMMUNICATE through your agenda throughout the year! ORGANIZATION & RESPONSIBILITY is the key to SUCCESS

# 4 Respect  Treat your classmates with FAIRNESS and RESPECT.  Bullying is NOT tolerated in this classroom or school, PERIOD!!

If you FOLLOW the guidelines  Verbal Praise for Action  Good Note Sent Home  Edible Treat  Privileges

If you DO NOT follow the guidelines:  He/she will be given verbal and non-verbal warning.  An opportunity to correct his/her behavior without any further consequences.  If the behavior persists, the student will then place their SIGNATURE on the weekly Student/Teacher Behavior Agreement Log.  Each week a new log will be used, but old ones will remain for record.  PENALTIES for each time a student is asked to sign the Agreement Chart.

What are the PENALTIES? 1 signature = WARNING 2 signatures = Time out from activities / Student reflection 3 signatures = Detention 4 signatures = Parent contact/ Referral/ Sent to Administration ** The CONSEQUENCES above are not punishments; they are a RESULT of a person’s chosen action(s). MISTAKES ARE OKAY, AS LONG AS WE LEARN FROM THEM

STUDENT/TEACHER CLASSROOM RULES AGREEMENT LOG: In the event that you CHOSE to disregard a rule, you will need to write the date and then your initials under the correct column. Penalties Requires a signature & date from student on Student/Teacher Classroom Rules Agreement Log Warning 2. Student Reflection 3. NO Activity (Time taken away/ No participation) 4. Parent Contact

Got here late? Class begins PROMPTLY at 8:30 am. If you are LATE, get a tardy pass from the office. QUIETLY! Come into the class QUIETLY! NOT like her! Place tardy pass IN bin labeled “Notes from Home & Tardy Pass” QUIETLY get to your seat & ask a buddy in your team what to do.

Absent? Have a parent or guardian write a note telling me the DAY you were absent & WHY? ** Note needs to be submitted within 2 DAYS! ** ALL makeup work will be found in the ABSENT FOLDERS according to the day you were absent. Take one of each WS, letter, flyer etc. This is your RESPNSIBILITY!!! You have 3 DAYS to complete work and place it in bin labeled ABSENT WORK! If you don’t complete it…

Attention Grabbers & Class Noise Level

Class Class! I NEED your ATTENTION! When I need your attention quickly or if you need to QUIET DOWN, I will say “Class Class !” To show me that YOU are paying attention, you need to respond “Yes! Yes!” The trick is to copy EXACTLY how I say it. Let’s practice!

Here’s what you do to obtain the Teacher’s ATTENTION HAND SIGNALS: Raise your hand if you wish to speak or get out your seat. Raise 2 fingers if you need to use the bathroom/drink water. Raise 3 fingers if you need my help and I will come to you unless instructed otherwise.

What happens if we are too LOUD? (INSIDE Voices vs. OUTSIDE Voices) The letters N O I S E will be on the board. Every time the class gets too LOUD and NOT using INSIDE voices, I will remove a letter from the word NOISE. Once ALL letters are removed, the class will have a SILENT LUNCH or PRIVILAGES Will be TAKEN AWAY !!

MRS. RIVERA! I NEED HELP! I DON’T GET IT ! WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO NOW? AHHHHHHHHHH!

Here’s what you do… 1.LOOK around. I’m pretty sure you can figure it out from what your classmates are working on. YOUR SMART! 2.ASK 3 friends in your group QUIETLY. Again, Not like this guy 3. If nobody knows what they are supposed to be doing, RAISE 3 FINGERS in the air and I will know you need assistance & I will come to you.

I KNOW you are ready for what the year has in store for us! TOGETHER, we can achieve it all!
