Rules and Procedures Spring Semester Ms. Vessell

Welcome Back! I hope you all had a wonderful break, but now it’s time to get down to business! [Most] of you passed last semester—congratulations! Those who have failing grades– you need to see me for an opportunity for unit recovery. – Whose responsibility is this?

Welcome Back--Activity 1.How do you think you did in English last semester (estimate your grade)? 2.Is this the best you could have done? 3.What are two things you did well last semester? 4.What are two things you need to improve on? What can you do to see that you do better with these areas? 5.List two goals for this semester. How do you plan to reach those goals? 6.What grade do you aim to get in English at the end of this year?

How to Make the Most of This Semester LISTEN to Mrs. Vessell Come to School Do ALL Homework/Classwork—On time Stay Organized Utilize My Teacher WebsiteMy Teacher Website ASK QUESTIONS!

Classroom Rules 1.Be respectful and courteous to your teacher and peers 2.Bring all of your English materials to class each day. 3.Assume responsibility for your actions and your assignments 4.Keep your desk and the surrounding area clean 5.No eating/having food out in class.

Once again… Please put your phones away and take off your headphones BEFORE class starts.

Detention Policy You will receive a detention for the following infractions: – Eating/having food out in class – Talking during a silent day – Excessive tardies – Disrespectful behavior

Three Strikes The “three strikes” rule is back this semester! Anytime the class as a whole is being loud and/or disrespectful, the class will receive a strike. Get three strikes?—You’re silent until I tell you otherwise. Those who talk will receive a detention.

Tardy Policy BE ON TIME to class! This will help you avoid getting “locked out” The door will close when the late bell rings. If you are outside the door, you are late and will be marked as such. 4 Step Tardy Policy 1.Warning 2.Call Parents 3.Detention 4.Write Up

Bathroom Passes You will ONLY get 5 hall passes this semester. Use them wisely, and don’t lose them. I will not give you any more. I will not let you out of my class without a pass. Name:_________ Destination:_________ Date:_________ Teacher Signature:_________ I am missing an important educational opportunity in Ms. Polson’s class for this frivolous errand.

Absent/ Make-Up Work Procedures

The front part of the binder will have a log outlining what we did in class while you were absent. After you figure out what we did in class, go to the bins in the back of the room to pick up your missing handouts.

Late Work Policy I will only grade late assignments TWICE this semester. Once at midterm, and again at the end of the semester.

English Binder--Changed Your English Binder will be EXTREMELY important this semester. STAY ORGANIZED! Notebook Checks count as a quiz grade. – Every 2 weeks 1/20—First check You need: – A 3 ring binder – With 5 dividers Dividers: 1.Bellwork/Journals 2.Reading Log 3.Classwork/Homework 4.Notes/Handouts 5.Graded Work

Quiz 1.What happens when your class reaches 3 strikes? 2.What happens when you reach 4 tardies? 3.How many bathroom passes do you get? Will I give you more when you run out/lose them? 4.How often will we have notebook checks? 5.What should you do when you come back to school from an absence (how do you get your makeup work)? 6.Extra Credit: What are the five sections of your English binder, in order?
