2 Syllabus Please annotate your syllabus with a highlighter/colored pencil to draw attention to the important parts Take notes on the back of the syllabus to help you remember things in this PowerPoint

3 Discipline If you get two of these, they will be mailed home!

4 Class Rules Respect your classmates, teacher, and the classroom
Ask questions! No hateful or intolerant language If I see a cell phone (or other electronic), I will take it. You can get it back after school. If it happens again, your parents pick it up Don’t say you don’t like reading (you have a Facebook, Twitter, and texting, don’t you?) Cheaters (all parties) will lose credit on any and all assignments If you take out food, I will eat it

6 “What did I miss?” Ask a neighbor Check binder for any new assignments
Check drawer for extra handouts Excused absences mean you get the same number of days to turn it in

7 Bathroom Ask to go to the bathroom when I’m not in the middle of teaching Sign out on the clipboard by the door Take the hall pas with you Sign in when you get back

8 Reading Journal Students are to bring a spiral notebook (college bound) to school every day Some homework and writing assignments will also be done in the journal If you have an issue with getting a notebook, come talk to me

9 Agenda Agenda will be on the board every day with an objective (Students will be able to. . . ) and the related content standards Book/article/short story/poem we’re reading Warm-up or activity

10 Absences and Tardies If you come to class late, I will ask you to wait outside until I am ready to come get you. Please have a pass if you must arrive to class late You will lose participation and academic points with each tardy or absence 10 absences will result in failure of the course, even if you have an A!

11 Any Questions? Seriously, don’t be afraid to ask questions. If you don’t ask questions, you’re not learning.
