Interactive Notebooks Most of the work we do in and outside of class will go into the notebook You will be responsible for bringing the notebook to Social Studies class.

What is an interactive notebook? an organizer for inquiry questions and what you've learned... a way to access and process the learning using various methods (writing, drawing, and discussion) a way for me--the teacher--to measure how you are learning

Securing things in the notebook You must glue, tape, or staple all of the pages into your notebook. Please do not let pages hang over the edges of your notebook. This is how they rip.

On First Page: Write the following information on the front of your notebook: o Your name o My name - Banning o Your Core # o Social Studies 6 Pumas Pumas Website: My SS Website:

Reflection Questions Title the top of the next page Reflection QuestionsReflection Questions We may refer to these questions for reflection throughout the semester 2. We will copy these questions in your notebook at a later date

Table of Contents At the top of the next four pages write TABLE OF CONTENTS

Table of Contents You will be responsible for keep a running table of contents for your notebook for everything that goes into it. This means you'll need to pay attention and not skip pages as you enter information into your notebook. You don’t need an entry for every page in the notebook, especially if the pages are left blank or the same activity goes on for multiple pages.

General Rules About Keeping Your Notebook: We will be using the left and right sides of the pages as needed. Sometimes we will do something on the right side of the page and then follow it with a reflection or different activity on the left. This means you will need to make sure you are on the correct page when directions are given. If you are absent, tardy, or miss anything that goes into or is assigned in the notebook, it is your responsibility to obtain the missing work, putting it in the right spot in your notebook, and complete it. No pages are to ever be ripped out of your notebook. If you need loose- leaf paper, please ask me for it or keep some of it in your folder. I love to draw, you may like to also, but do not doodle in your notebook if it does not relate to what we're doing in class Each page should be numbered. Pen or pencil should be used for writing in the notebook, not marker as it tends to bleed through the pages.

Islam Cover – page 1 During warm up grab a blue textbook or any book from the bookshelf on Islam. Use these books to create a cover. You Need: Four pictures – neatly drawn and colored Four captions The title ISLAM big and bold in the middle of the page

Write down the Essential & Guiding Questions sheet on the next page – This will be PAGE 2 Essential Questions: -How is the religion of Islam interrelated to the history, culture, and politics of the Islamic Empire? Guiding Questions: What geographic features influenced the spread of Islam? What similarities/differences does Islam share with other religions? What characteristics of the Islamic Dynasties influence individuals and cultural groups? How do Islamic art and achievements impact European thought and culture?

Turn your notebook sideways and draw a concept web on the next page that looks like this: Label this page – PAGE 3 – Mind Map Islamic Empire

Your map will be pasted onto page 5 of your interactive notebook. Please wait to glue this in until you have completed today’s work. If you still have not completed the map at the end of class, then you may glue it in at this time.

On Page Six – Write down the question for today on the top margin of the page Split the rest of your page in half – take notes on the video using the top half of your page Leave the bottom half of your page blank for now
