Bellwork for August 11, 2014 Sit in the same seat you sat in on Friday. Take out your agenda and write Monday’s information. – Rules and Procedures – Universal Screener – Me Project Be ready and sitting quietly when the bell rings.

Mrs. Burford’s Classroom Procedures

Entering the Classroom 1. Each day you should enter the classroom on time, ready to work. 2. Take any papers and supplies located on the back counter. 3. Open your agenda and enter any information displayed on the board. Leave agenda open for me to check. 4. Begin working on the bellwork. Work quietly until I tell you to stop.

Sharpening Pencils 1. If your pencil needs to be sharpened, do this once you have placed your books and notebook on your desk upon entering the classroom. If there is a line, please wait quietly for your turn. 2. You may quietly sharpen your pencil during class as long as I am not instructing at that time, or you may use a hand-held sharpener at your desk. 3. If you are without a pencil or pen, you may borrow a pen from me. This pen must be returned by the end of class.

Paper Heading 1. Every assignment should be labeled in the upper right hand corner of your paper like this: Your Name (First and Last) Date Personal Number (more information later)

Leaving Class 1. Do NOT stop working or put away your books until class is over. Work until dismissed by me. 2. Make sure all trash is thrown away in your group’s garbage can. Do NOT get up in the middle of class to throw away trash. 3. Be sure the floor is clean around your desk and push your chair under your desk. 4. Remember: The bell does NOT dismiss you—I do!

Did I Miss Anything? Tom Wayman Nothing. When we realized you weren’t here we sat with our hands folded on our desks in silence, for the full two hours Everything. I gave an exam worth 40 percent of the grade for this term and assigned some reading due today on which I’m about to hand out a quiz worth 50 percent

Nothing. None of the content of this course has value or meaning Take as many days off as you like: any activities we undertake as a class I assure you will not matter either to you or me and are without purpose Everything. A few minutes after we began last time a shaft of light suddenly descended and an angel or other heavenly being appeared and revealed to us what each woman or man must do to attain divine wisdom in this life and the hereafter This is the last time the class will meet before we disperse to bring the good news to all people on earth.

Nothing. When you are not present how could something significant occur? Everything. Contained in this classroom is a microcosm of human experience assembled for you to query and examine and ponder This is not the only place such an opportunity has been gathered but it was one place And you weren’t here.

Missing Work/ Absent Work 1. Check online for assignments and bellwork. 2. Look in the appropriate file for any worksheets from that day. Check only before or after class. 3. Ask a reliable friend in your group for any notes. 4. Tests and quizzes, along with any assignments, must be completed within five days of your return to school. 5. Remember that it is your responsibility to get makeup work!

Turning in Work 1. Place all late work in your class’s drawer. 2. All late work musty have the assignment you are turning in written at the top of your paper. 3. If you do not have an assignment to turn in, you must turn in a paper with your name, date, assignment name, and reason you do not have your work. I must get something from you!

Graded Assignments and Portfolios 1. Graded assignments may be passed out when you finish all of your classwork (with my permission). 2. Assignments submitted without names will be placed in the “No Name, No Credit” basket. It is your responsibility to retrieve your assignment, place your name on it, and resubmit it for a grade. 3. You will keep your returned work in your folder until the end of the nine weeks. 4. You will be keeping up with two composition notebooks throughout the year. These will contain notes, vocabulary, and short writing assignments. 5. Throughout the school year, writing assignments will be kept in your writing portfolio.

Classroom Library and Classroom Supplies 1. Students may borrow books from my personal classroom library. You must sign books out on the clipboard. 2. Follow classroom library rules. 3. Classroom supplies must be used properly and should be returned neatly by the end of class.

Online Grades 1. You are expected to keep up with your grades each nine weeks by keeping your graded work and checking grades online. 2. I will update online grades weekly.

Announcements and Visitors 1. You should immediately stop and be quiet. 2. Pay close attention to all announcements—it may be something you need to know! 3. Shouting, “The phone is ringing!” or, “Someone is here!” is not appropriate behavior.

Additional Information 1. Clear water is allowed in class. No colored water. 2. Gum is permissible. However, it should be not seen or heard. 3. If you must have a snack, eat between classes or during break. No eating during class. 4. Leave all grooming supplies in your locker. 5. Purses should be located on the back of your chair, and you should stay out of them during class.
