Welcome to Geometry! Ms. Matthews

TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF: If you find that you are having difficulty at ANY time, please talk to your teacher. Course Expectations:

TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER: Allow everyone to learn and work in this classroom. Respect others and help when asked. Course Expectations:

TAKE CARE OF THIS PLACE: There is to be NO FOOD, GUM, OR DRINK IN THE CLASSROOM FOR ANY REASON. No music devices, headphones, cell phones, hats, sunglasses or cosmetic products are permitted in the classroom. The item(s) will be confiscated.

REQUIRED MATERIALS: Each student is to come prepared for class and bring the following materials EVERY DAY:  A 3-ring binder  Graph paper and Lined Paper  Your own supply of paper/ pencils

 Geometry tool kit – Compass, ruler, and protractor

Calculator – TI-30XIIS

GRADES: Your grade will be based on the following: Grade breakdown:Grade scale: CW/HW/Group Work30% 98% & up A % B- Quizzes/Warm-ups 5% 93-97% A 78-79% C+ Tests 45% 90-92% A % C Cumulative Exams*20%88-89% B % C % B 67% D 66% & below F *A midterm/final exam grade may replace a lower chapter test score. It will not replace a missing test score.

ATTENDANCE: Geometry covers a considerable amount of material. Please note the following: Attendance is very important. If you are absent on a day of a new lesson, you are responsible for making up the notes and homework before the chapter test. If you are absent on a review day, you are expected to do the review on your own and take the test on test day. If you are absent on a test day you must make it up BEFORE the day of the next test on your own time (during after school tutorial or during a free block). This is your responsibility to schedule a time to make up a missed test with your teacher. Homework and tests will receive NO credit if the absence is unexcused (not cleared through the attendance office).

DAILY HOMEWORK: Work is to be done on a separate sheet of paper. See back page for homework expectations. Homework will be collected daily. It must be complete AND every problem correct to receive full credit.

DAILY HOMEWORK:  Late work is not accepted without a pass. You will be given 2 passes in the beginning and can earn one pass for every homework packet with an A. Absent work is due the day of the test. No work will be accepted after the chapter test. EXAMPLE

 If everyone in the group turns in EVERY homework assignment then the group receives 1 extra credit point for that day. DAILY HOMEWORK:

DAILY QUIZZES: If you are absent or late you cannot make up the quiz. At the end of the quarter, the 3 lowest quiz or warm-up scores will be dropped.

TESTS: During the chapter your group will have an opportunity to earn extra credit on the test. There will be some problems during the notes that are extra credit and there will be a “problem of the day.” The teacher randomly calls on a student and if they get it correct, everyone in the group earns 1% extra credit on the test.

TESTS: If the group averages an 80% on the test and everyone passes with a 68%, the group will earn 2% extra credit on the test.

It is very important to prepare for the test by studying: Re work homework problems Read through your notes Do the review homework Review Daily Quizzes Go to TESTS:

VIEWING GRADES ONLINE: Grades may be viewed online. They will be updated after each chapter test. To view grades online, please refer to the following instructions. Go to Under Staff, select Directory. Select your teacher’s name Select Visit Website, and navigate to Grades. Enter your student’s ID number.

Things about me: I have a bachelors in Math and a masters in Education I work a lot, and expect you to as well I love music (and will torture you with it!) I love teaching math

Things about the Classroom: Grade sheets will be sent home after each test If you get an ‘A’ on a test, your name goes up on the superstars board! There will be notes and HW daily

Homework questions are to be asked during the warm-up or quiz in your groups. Or you can go to tutorial. Things about the Classroom: You will be expected to “play well” with others in groups

Everyone in the group must have the same question for me to start to help you Things about the Classroom: I will not tell you how to do something, but will guide you to finding the correct path to the answer

Why group work? 5% 10% 20% 30% 50% 75% 90%

Things NOT to do: Your phone is not a calculator Ipods should not be used!

Things NOT to do: Say “I will do this homework later”

Things NOT to do: Talk while I am talking 3…2…1

Things NOT to do: Put your head down on your desk

Things NOT to do: Not come prepared to class

Things NOT to do: Say “I don’t want to sit here”

What I like to see: Positive Attitude Helping others by explaining! Not having to personally invite you to work Take pride in your education
