GCSE INTRODUCTION – LESSON 1

 FULL COURSE GCSE (REFERRED TO AS 2PE01)  HAND OUT PE TEXT BOOKS/BOOKLETS  GO THROUGH HOW THEY WILL KEEP FOLDERS AND HOW HOMEWORK WILL BE SET.  GO THROUGH GCSE BOOKLETS AND EXPLAIN HOW THE COURSE IS SPLIT UP:  4 ACTIVITIES IS WORTH 48% - ROLE OF PLAYER/PARTICIPANT, LEADER OR OFFICIAL.

 YOU MUST CHOOSE FROM AT LEAST 2 DIFFERENT GROUPS. YOU MUST BE A PRACTICAL PERFORMER IN AT LEAST 2 OF THE ACTIVITIES. YOU COULD EVEN BE A PRACTICAL PERFORMER, A LEADER, AND AN OFFICIAL IN ONE ACTIVITY!

 IF YOU ARE OFFERING OFFICIATING OR LEADING THEN YOU WILL BE ASKED TO OFFICIATE OR LEAD IN THE CHOSEN ACTIVITY ON MODERATION DAY. YOU WILL ALSO NEED TO PROVIDE EVIDENCE OF THE LEVEL AT WHICH YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED THESE ROLES DURING THE COURSE. THIS MIGHT BE, FOR EXAMPLE, A LOG BOOK RECORDING YOUR INVOLVEMENT IN COACHING AT A CLUB, OR MATCHES YOU HAVE REFEREED.

 ANALYSIS OF PERFORMANCE IS WORTH 12% AND THIS IS MARKED OUT OF 20 – MUST BE ONE OF YOUR CHOSEN PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES – NOT AN OFFICIAL OR LEADER. THIS WILL ALSO INCLUDE A PEP.  THEORY IS WORTH 40% (1 HOUR AND 30 MINS.)

 LOOK AT ANALYSIS OF PERFORMANCE GRID AND EXPLAIN WHAT THEY WILL BE TESTED ON :  1. RULES  2. OBSERVE AND ANALYSE PERFORMANCE - DETALED ANALYSIS OF TECHNIQUES.  3. EVALUATE PERFORMANCE - OBSERVATION OF STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES  4. PLAN STRATEGIES, TACTICS, AND PRACTICES  5. PLAN A PERSONAL EXERCISE PROGRAMME

 YOU CAN DO YOUR AOP IN ONE OF 3 WAYS:  AN ORAL INTERVIEW  A WRITTEN PIECE OF WORK  A PRESENTATION  ALL MARKED OUT OF 4 AND TOTAL MARK OUT OF 20.  WHAT DO WE NEED TO KNOW IN ORDER TO MAKE AN ANALYSIS?  REFER TO P175 ONWARDS OF TEXT BOOK

 THE PROCESS WILL REQUIRE US TO:  OBSERVE  ANALYSE  EVALUATE  PLAN  FEEDBACK AND SO ON.

 OBSERVATION SKILLS  WHERE TO STAND IN RELATION TO THE PERFORMER TO GET THE BEST VIEW ( ABOVE TO THE SIDE ETC.) WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO BREAK DOWN SKILLS – WHAT ARE THE ARMS DOING, LEGS ETC.  IN ORDER TO MAKE AN ANALYSIS WE MUST HAVE SOME EXPERIENCE OF THE GAME  THESE COULD INCLUDE:  PRACTICE  LEARNING FROM OTHERS VIDEO  WE NEED TO HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF THE PERFECT MODEL  TASK  IDENTIFY ONE SKILL THAT YOU CAN PERFORM EXTREMELY WELL AND LIST WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IN ORDER TO PERFORM THAT SKILL TO PERFECTION

 MENTAL APPROACH  YOU MIGHT BE ASKED TO GIVE REFERENCE TO THE MENTAL APPROACH – THIS COULD INCLUDE:  REFER TO THE GOOD POINTS FIRST  REFER TO THE MAIN FAULTS FIRST  TASK – PERFORM A SKILL AND THEN LIST THE GOOD POINTS AND THEN THE FAULTS IN PRIORITY ORDER  DO WE NEED TO CHANGE THE SKILL OR TECHNIQUE IF WE ARE SUCCESSFUL? GIVE EXAMPLES.  WAYS TO IMPROVE SKILLS THROUGH PRACTICES  SOME PLAYERS CANNOT PERFORM THE NECESSARY SKILLS IN THE GAME SITUATION, UNDER PRESURE. THEREFORE WE NEED TO DEVISE PRACTICES TO IMPROVE THIS ASPECT.

 TASK – SKILLS AND TECHNIQUES NEED TO BE BUILT UP IN A PROGRESSIVE AND SEQUENTIAL WAY. CHOOSE 3 SKILLS AND EXPLAIN HOW THIS CAN BE DONE. THIS CAN BE FINISHED OF FOR HOMEWORK.
