PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES AND ANALYSIS OF PERFORMANCE

PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES During this 2 year course you will be participating in a number of practical activities. During these 2 years you will be assessed in these activities, both in the individual skills and in the game or competitive situation. A mark out of 10 will be allocated to each activity based on the criteria set down by the exam board (EDEXCEL).

This information is presented in a large book called a “Practical Assessment Guide”. At the end of year 11 your PE Teachers will assess all your marks and choose the 4 best scores you have achieved over the 2 years. You will then have a 2 day practical test on these 4 sports which will be assessed by an outside “Moderator”. Your PE Teachers marks will count for 25% of your overall mark and this 2 day test will account for another 25%.

ANALYSIS OF PERFORMANCE You will also be examined on your ability to ANALYSE your own and others’ PERFORMANCE and suggest ways of improving it. You may chose to ANALYSE A PERFORMANCE in the sport of your choice, provided it is one of the sports you are being assessed in. BUT you should use all your practical activities as practice in developing these skills.

These skills will account for 10% of your overall mark. The skills that will be tested in ANALYSING PERFORMANCE are: 1.Your knowledge of the rules of your game and the ability to apply these rules as a player, referee, umpire or judge. 2.The knowledge of the “Terminology” used in the activity. e.g. overlap in Football, zone defence in Basketball. Or the names of tactical formations and TACTICS.

3. You will be expected to identify both strengths and weaknesses in your own and other students performance. 4. During your lessons you will learn a lot of practices which can help to improve performance. You will have to show that you can plan practices and show your knowledge of training methods. 5. You will need to know what the performance should look like at its very best. This is called a knowledge of the PERFECT MODEL.
